12.45am
A curious appeal, more in hope than with optimism. Mrs. Dodd of the 'Crescent Bar' gave me/Boyle GAA two images,(nearly 30 years ago now!!)of Dermot Earley, transferred to blockboard. I have a memory of one of them, Dermot walking sadly from the field after the All-Ireland loss of 1980. Indeed I may have 'loaned' them to some project such as the Strokestown exhibition and that was the end for us. My last memory is that they were hanging in the upper room of the GAA Club/Catholic Club now Family Life Centre. I do not have them which is unusual or they are very submerged!! (Nothing gets lost with me only submerged!). Anyone a thought?

!2.05 am.
There is a final 'meitheal' tomorrow evening from 7pm. An updating meeting will take place after in the new rooms.
Please Note:

The Abbey College Juvenile Final has been postponed from Friday next.
If people in town businesses and so forth have Boyle colours they might consider displaying same for the coming weekend.
Hi All,
Could ye please attend a short meeting in the New Dressing Room complex tomorrow night at 9.30pm. We just want to finalise the events for this Saturday in the park. Also we need to organise a team for our annual church gate collection the weekend. The Roscommon Herald Cup is pencilled in for sometime in May and any other matters arising so far this year.
The reason of the 9.30pm start is to accomodate teams training etc. I look forward to seeing ye there. All the best,
Charlie (Candon, Minor Sec.)

Boyle GAA Minor Club will hold their annual church gate collection on Saturday next the 1st and Sunday the 2nd.

The Club Person of the Year award will also be made as will the Hall of Fame award anr the Player of the Year awards for Under 21, Junior and Intermediate.
A futher gathering of the "meitheal" will take place in the park on this Tuesday at 7pm to continue with the tidy up. This will be followed by a first meeting in the new Clubrooms at 8.30pm.
On the playing fields the Club enjoyed mixed success. The minors had a well merited win over Michael Glavey’s on Saturday evening in the Abbey Park. This team is currently top of the table and it will have no further game until after the exam season.
The McGovern Directional Drilling senior team went down to a good fast and focussed Elphin side at Boyle home on Sunday in the O'Rourke Cup (more details later). They must regroup for the visit of St Brigid’s to Boyle on Sunday next at 2pm for their next game. Thanks to Barry Lowe and Peter Doherty of the Moving Stairs for their generous sponsorship of catering for the senior team.
The U 14s’ will continue training as normal on Thursday evening. The U 16s’ will not be in action again until 16th May.
The Feelystone junior team's Tansey Cup game versus Kilbride which was due to be played next weekend has been postponed at Kilbride's request.
Best wishes to the Abbey College juvenile team which will take on St Enda's College, Galway in the Connacht Final on Friday next 30th April in Dunmore at 12.30pm.
The following were the €20 winners of the Club Lotto draw which was held recently in Daly's Bar; Kieran and Mairead McKeon, Gus Gannon, Michael Brennan, Maeve Hayden-O'Connor, Noel McKenna, Conor McGarry, Brian Grehan, Sean Kenny, Peter McLoughlin and John Keenehan. The house prize was won by Paddy Spellman. The jackpot wasn't won.
Boyle U10's represented Boyle very well at the Go Games Blitz on
24/4/2010 in Hyde Park. A total of 4 games were played 9-a-side, 10
minutes a half. Boyle won 3 and lost one (no score was kept by
management or referees ). All the management team would like to thank
the players for their attendance and behaviour but a big word of
thanks to all the parents who drove and gave players lifts to the
blitz and supported the team in great numbers and were a huge help on
the day. K.K. (I was told by a parent that the Blitz was run in exemplary fashion, which is great to hear T.C.)

Boyle Ladies Club;
The ladies suffered a heart-breaking one point defeat away to Four Roads on Saturday evening, having hauled back a nine point half time deficit. They await details of their remaining group game against Strokestown.

2pm. Busy Times:
The Club is in the final stages of preparartions for the opening of its new Clubrooms. The opening date is now confrimed as Saturday week the 1st of May. The official opening will be jointly performed by County Board President, Boyle Club President and a former member of the great Roscommon All-Ireland Senior Football winning teams of the forties-John Joe Nerney accompanied by Roscommon legend Gerry O'Malley, Roscommon's greatest footballer during the fifties and sixties.

The programme for the day is as follows:
2pm. U 12 exhibition game.
2.30. U 8’s exhibition game.
3pm Ladies Game Boyle V St. Mary’s, Tulsk.
4pm Official Opening of the new clubrooms by John Joe Nerney and Gerry O’Malley.
4.50 Pre-match parade by the Roscommon and Clare senior teams led by Boyle Marching Band.
5pm Roscommon V Clare.
5.30 U10s’ boys and girls half-time exhibition games.
5.45 Second half of senior game.
10. Presentation Social in the Royal Hotel. Music by Michael McDonald of Glor Tire T.G.4 star. Presentation of Div. 4 medals and of Club Person of the Year, Hall of Fame and Player of the Year at U 21, Junior and Intermediate will take pace. It is hoped to generate a celebratory atmosphere for the week end. On the following day Boyle seniors have a big Division 1 League game against St. Brigid’s at the Abbey Park.

A meeting of the Club will be held on this Wednesday evening, the 21st, at 8.30pm to monitor the preparations for the opening. There was a huge turnout of Club members for the tidy up "meitheal" in the Park on Saturday last and this is greatly appreciated. There will be a futher morning's work on Saturday next and all Club members are again asked to come along.

Meanwhile on the playing fields the Under 16s’ had a comprehensive victory over Strokestown on Sunday in the Abbey Park on Sunday. It was an excellent team performance with all players, and subs used, playing their part.
The McGovern Directional Drilling team lost their unbeaten record in the O'Rourke Cup on Sunday when they suffered a three point defeat to a determined Clan na Gael team in the Abbey Park. Clann led on the score of Clann 1.4 Boyle 0.6 at half time. The Clann goal came in the first minute of the game and even then it was a very important score. Clann had a player sent off, harshly one felt, and this might have been seen as a help to Boyle. However it is often difficult to adjust to this. Clann were a pretty good side well organised and playing to their strengths such as Jonathan Dunning at corner forward and also breaking ball and picking up breaks. Boyle asked a lot off Darren O’Connor up front in the first half and the bounce of the ball on the hard ground was difficult also a good few high balls just were not appropriate. Boyle were relying on the free taking of Cian Smith who ended the half with four points the other two added by Darren and Aaron O’Connor. Boyle began the second half well and went two ahead but a good effort from a free from Mark O’Connor just shave the post and an over passed ball to Cian smith in a goal –scoring position meant that Boyle could not push on. Clann introduced the Shines and they steadied the Clann game and Clann took over for the final ten minutes or so and wound up good winners on Clann 1.10 Boyle 0.10. Still, Clann are no bad side, so often teams learn more from defeat than victory and hopefully the side will put that into practise on Sunday next against Elphin in Boyle. I’d like to see less debate from players with the referee. Irrespective of the merits or otherwise of his decision he is not going to change that decision and it only leads to bookings and frustration. If Clann had lost on Sunday they could easily have pointed to the early sending off. Boyle will be determined to bounce back to winning ways when they meet Elphin on Sunday next.

(There are different lessons to be learned from an event at the Abbey Park on Sunday where the referee had his car stolen. I don’t know the overall details of the incident but I believe that due to the very successful response of the Gardai the car was retrieved. Club officials were really shocked at the incident. So the motto is vigilance in terms of locking doors, cars, and premises, whatever. I still remember a young team I had in Castlerea and their clothes being rifled and a good deal of money, phones, chains and such, stolen).

The minor team will play Michael Glavey’s in Boyle on Saturday next in the Division 1 League.
The Under 14s will play St Ciaran’s in the league in Boyle on this Wednesday evening at 7pm.
The Club Lotto draw will take place in the Moylug Inn on this Saturday night with Michael Gilmartin's team in charge. The jackpot will be €3,900.
Congratulations to the Abbey College juvenile team which has qualified for the Connacht Final by virtue of a victory over Strokestown during the week. They await the winners of the other semi final between St Enda’s, Galway or Ballisodare.
Commiserations to the Roscommon U21 panel and to their management with their defeat to Dublin on Saturday in the All-Ireland Semi-Final.
The Club extends its sympathy to the Glancy family, the Curries, Carrick on Shannon and the Callaghan family, Elphin on their recent sad bereavements. As I write I hear of the accident in a game to the Leitrim player McGuinness, so a tough week-end of tragedies in the GAA world.

Ladies Club.
Boyle will play Strokestown in the Under 12 girl’s championship in the Abbey Park on this Wednesday evening at 7pm. The senior ladies suffered a narrow defeat to Ballinameen in their first round of the winter league. They are scheduled to play Four Roads in Ballyforan on Saturday next at 6pm.

1.30 pm
Meitheal......the first Abbey Park Meitheal to help in the presentation of the park for the dressing room opening takes place on this Sat. the 17th from 9 am. Don't forget your shovel...
Very Important O'Rourke Cup Division One Game in the Abbey Park at 2pm on Sunday, versus Clann na Gael. While the Boyle senior team has done very, very, well to date in getting 7 points from the possible 8 in their first four games, the target has to be 10 points so the side needs another 3 before they can relax somewhat. Sunday's game is, like all games now, an opportunity to move closer to that target. Support is always important so supporters are asked to make the extra effort to turn out on Sunday, especially for the home game.
The U 16 football league game between Boyle and Strokestown, in the Abbey Park, on Sunday, has changed in time from 12 noon to 11am.

Ladies Fixture for Wednesday:
Boyle U16 girls County Semi-Final in Boyle on Wed. evening versus Western Gaels at 7pm.
Note to the relevant lady. We are putting together a small programme for the dressing room opening....I'd appreciate if someone from the ladies Club would put together a concise summary of the clubs activities, say 500 words and nominate say two pics for inclusion in same. I'd appreciate this asap.
With thanks
Tony.

This is a last call for pics. items or ideas for the programme for the dressing room opening.
Busy week-end: The entire weekend was taken up with the staging of a most successful golf classic which was held in glorious sunshine in the blissful surroundings of Boyle Golf Club. Details of winners will be published next week. Thanks are extended to the Captains and members of the Golf Club for enabling us to use their facilities and especially to Phil and Gerry for their marvellous hospitality and hard work and for feeding the multitudes. Thanks to all participants and to our many sponsors. Special thanks to Michael and Kit for their trojan efforts in making it the tremendous success that it was.
The official opening of our new clubroom facilities will be at the May bank holiday weekend and the precise date and details will be confirmed shortly. The Club asks all able bodied members to make themselves available on Saturday next the 17th from 9.30am to do a major tidy up on the Abbey Park in preparation for the opening. Roscommon U 21s’ meet Dublin in Cavan on Saturday the 17th.
The following were €20 winners in the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in Creightons;- Eamon Perry, Martina Keville, Tom Mullaney, Tommy and Monica King, Gabriel Lavin, John Egan, Tom Commons, Bernard Martin, Liam McQuaid and Eamon O'Connor. The house prize was won by Marie Carty. The next draw will be held in Daly's on Saturday night with Team ‘A’ in charge. The jackpot will be €3,800.
It was also a busy and largely successful weekend on the playing fields. The U14s’ lost to a strong Clan na Gael team in the Feile competition. No doubt this team will regroup for the forthcoming championship. The minors had an excellent win at home over St Aidan’s on Monday last and they had an impressive victory over Clan na Gael in Johnstown on Sunday. They are currently top of the Division I League table. Their next outing is scheduled against Michael Glaveys on Sunday week April 24th.
The Feelystone junior team earned a well deserved draw against Padraig Pearses in Woodmount on Saturday evening last. They also sit at the top of the Tansey Cup table. Their next game is scheduled against Kilbride on the May weekend.
The McGowan Directional Drilling team will entertain Clan na Gael in the Abbey Park on Sunday next in the O’Rourke Cup/Division 1-see fixtures. A good turn out of support would be appreciated as the team still needs vital points to ensure staying in Division 1.The U16s will have a home game against Strokestown on Sunday next-see fixtures for details. The Club extends best wishes to the Roscommon U21 team and management in the All Ireland Semi Final against Dublin on Saturday next.
Boyle Ladies Club
The U12s will travel to Hyde Park to play Roscommon Gaels at 7pm on this Thursday evening. The adult ladies team is scheduled to play Ballinameen on this Saturday evening at 7pm in the Abbey Park.

10 pm.
A meeting will take place on Tuesday night in the Royal Hotel at 8.30. There are a number of big projects for discussion such as the Golf Classic, the Saturday Meitheals, the opening on May 1st. (If the Roscommon U 21 team defeat Dublin in the All-Ireland Semi- Final, to be played on Sat. the 17th of April then the Final is due to be played on Sat. May the 1st which will necessitate the moving of the ‘opening’ to say the Bank Holiday Monday of the 3rd. I have asked for pics. especially of successful teams from 2005-when the last programme was produced for the pitch reopening- to the present. Also I repeat that I would like to have pics of this year's teams in as many grades as possible including ladies.
Feile; Boyle U14s’ had a convincing win over St Aidan’s in the Feile competition in Ballyforan on Wednesday last. They will travel south again on this Wednesday to meet Clan na Gael in Johnstown in the next round of this competition at 6.45pm.
The minor team played St Aidans in the Abbey Park on Easter Monday in the Division 1 League. Though behind at half time, Boyle ran out easy winners in the end on the score of 4.13 to 2.3. (St. Aidan’s will certainly be glad to see the back of Boyle as they have fallen to Boyle at Senior, Minor and U 14 in the recent past). The Feile side will travel to Johnstown on Saturday next to play Clan na Gael in the next round.
The McGovern Directional Drilling senior team sit on top of the O'Rourke Cup Div. 1, table after last weekend's fixtures. They secured a well merited draw with Padraig Pearses in the Abbey Park on Friday evening last and they secured a great 4 point victory over county champions Castlerea St Kevins in O'Rourke Park on Sunday. While they have made a great start to this league, it must be borne in mind that there are still seven more rounds to be played. They now have seven points from eight. To ensure Division One status they would probably need two if not three more points. Their next outing is the first of three home games the first against Clan na Gael on Sunday 18th April. There follows games against Elphin and St. Brigid’s. The team is settling down to a predictable pattern. While I was not able to be in Castlerea on Sunday I am told that it was full team performance from goalkeeper on: T. McGarty, B. Supple, T. Egan, C. Beirne, A. Sharkey, S. Purcell (Capt.), Ml. O’Donnell, K. McLoughlin, C. Cox, A. O’Connor, M. O’Connor, R. O’Donohoe, L. Conboy, D. O’Connor, C. Smith with D. Callaghan, L. Conroy (inj.), J. Lyons, D. Kelly, C. Beirne, K. Keenan, P. Lavin, J. Healy.
The Feelystone junior team will be in action on Saturday next in the Tansey Cup when they will take on Padraig Pearses in Woodmount. This team has been pretty impressive to date with wins against; Oran, Castlerea, Kilglass Gaels and X with a loss to Elphin.
The final arrangements are being made for the fundraising golf classic which will be held at Boyle Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday next. Those who have yet to enter should contact 086 8122084 immediatly.
Congratulations are extended to the panel and management of the Roscommon U21 team, and especially to Ciaran Cox, on winning the Connacht Championship against Sligo on Saturday. We eagerly look forward to a battle with the Dubs on Saturday week.
The Club "meitheal" in preparation for the opening of the new clubrooms on 1st May will take place on Saturdays the 17th and the 24th April, although the timing of the U21 All Ireland Semi Final may militate against a full day's work on 17th. All Club members are asked to come along and ensure that our grounds are looking their best for the opening.
The Club extends its sympathy to the King and McCarthy families on the respective deaths of Micheál King and Seán McCarthy. Micheal’s son Adrian has been a long time player with the Club. Sean McCarty played club and Street League football in Boyle in the sixties.

Sunday 1 am.
Boyle U 16 Girls will play Four Roads in the County Quarter Final on Easter Monday at 6.30.
Boyle Minor boys also play on Easter Monday while the under 14s’, who defeated St. Aidan’s last Wednesday play again on Wed. next.
The seniors had a good draw over Padraig Pearse's on Good Friday, in Boyle, on 13 points each. Whether it was a point gained or a point lost is a moot point. However 5 points from six after three games would have been regarded as very acceptable prior to the campaign. The strategy of getting the points on the board early is succeeding. The entire focus must now turn to the next fence, the game on Sunday versus Castlerea
