Boyle GAA Clubs are in the final stages of it old clothes collection project. It is intended that Saturday next from 12 noon to 2pm will be the final opportunity to bring bags of clean unwanted clothes to the Clubroom in the Abbey Park. All club members and players and the general public are asked to make a special effort to do a "spring clean" of wardrobes and donate any unwanted clothes to the Club. Those wishing to drop in bags of clothes at times other than on Saturday, may do so by contacting officers of the male clubs or the ladies club.
Congratulations are extended to all involved with all three winning Roscommon teams at the weekend, and especially to our Boyle representatives, Evan McGrath on the minors, Tadhg Lowe, Donie and Enda Smith and Cillian Cox on the U21s, to Donie and especially to Enda who made his senior debut on Sunday, and not forgetting the Boyle connections in the team managements.
Best wishes are extended to Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown in their All Ireland Colleges Final on Saturday next with our Secretary, Kathleen Hanmore being a teacher in the school.
The Club extends its sympathy to the Flanagan family, Croghan and the Beirne family, Ballinagare on recent bereavements.
Boyle Ladies.
The Junior Ladies secured their first league win of the season when they defeated Padraig Pearses in Woodmount on Sunday. This was a good team display in a game that was played in arctic conditions. The Boyle girls played with the aid of the wind in the first half and they went in at half time with a lead of 1.5 to no score. The Pearses girls availed of the wind in the second half to eventually draw level. However, Boyle scored some late points to secure a memorable victory for this new look squad. Team;- Sarah Keenehan, Dayna Farrell, Sinead Keenehan, Roisin Brennan, Shauna Moran, Maria Keenehan, Caoimhe Morris, Natasha Regan, Catriona Hanmore, Danielle Gaffney, Orla Nicholson, Anita Mattimoe, Edel Boyd, Danni McLoughlin and Catriona Lynch.  Training continues on Wednesday and Friday evenings.

Mon. 18th 12 High Noon....The following were €20 winner at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in Wynne’s Bar; Barbara McQuaid, Colm Loftus, Canon Gerry Hanly, Colm Brennan, John Corrigan and Gus McDermott. The house prize was won by Tom Browne. The numbers drawn were 1/8/9/22. The jackpot wasn't won and it will stand at €3,200 for next Saturday night's draw which will be held in Mattimoe's Bar. Team 'B' will be in charge.
The U16s were comprehensively  beaten by a stronger Shannon Gaels/ Kilmore outfit in the Division 1 League in the College Field on Saturday evening. Their next outing will be against Padraig Pearses on Good Friday and much work needs to be done by the panel in the interim. [I (t.c. personal view) have said this before but if a team is really struggling at a Div. A level then that team’s games records should be collected and used as a case for playing in the second layer in subsequent years. All clubs do it and we cannot always have top teams. The important thing to do is to have teams competing at a level that gives them a chance, at least to enjoy it).
The National Automation Limited minors are scheduled for Division 1 League action on this Friday evening against Padraig Pearses in Woodmount.
The Cooney Motors/ Cooney's Centra juniors are in preparation for their next outing against St Michael's on 1st April (Easter Monday). Hopefully there will be a better response to the arrangements of the manager for this game than there were for the St. Ronan’s game. (t.c.)
The McGovern Directional Drilling intermediates will have their next outing on Easter Sunday when they will entertain (!) St Dominic’s.
All team managers are advised that the Abbey Park will remain closed for training and for games for the next two weeks to enable the surface to mature following recent drainage works, and all are asked to comply with the instructions of the pitch co-ordinator in this matter. (The pitch is looking well but as there is very little growth in this cold weather the pitch needs a shot of grass-growth inducing mild weather to get that protective cover of grass).
The Club expresses its appreciation to Abbey Community College for making its facilities available while the Abbey Park is out of commission.
The Club extends its heartiest congratulations to the players and manangement and eveyone involved with the St Brigids Club who did the County proud on Sunday in Croke Park in winning the All Ireland Club Senior Football Championship.
Congratulations are also extended to Club player Shane Spellman and Louise Kennedy who got married last weekend. All the very best to you both.
The Cash for Clobber campaign is ongoing and the Club will be accepting bags of old and unwanted clothes at the Clubrooms on the next few Saturdays from 12 noon until 2pm or at any other times by arrangement with Club officers. All Club members and supporters are asked to make a special effort to do a "spring clean" of their wardrobes and donate the unwanted c;othes to the Club.
Best wishes are extended to the Roscommon U21 panel and manangement as they commence their Connacht Championship campaign on Saturday v Leitrim. Boyle should be represented there. After the heroics of the county minor teams in recent years and last year’s U 21 getting to the All-Ireland Final the county’s U 21 teams should be contenders for a number of years.
Ladies Club
The Boyle Ladies footballers drew with St Barrys in the Junior League game which was played in a downpour in the College Field on Saturday evening. This new look team is taking shape under the management of Paul and Bernie. They didn't do enough in the second half to build on the fine foundation that they had built in the opening half.

Monday, March 11, 2013

Mon. 12 noon....Boyle had a weekend of mixed fortunes on the playing fields. The U16s' suffered a narrow defeat to St Ciaran's in their Division 1 League encounter in the Abbey Park on Sunday. It was disappointing that the game had a late start because of a mix up in regard to a referee. The team was: C. McKeon/A. O’Brien/J. King/O. Regan/J. Cox/G. Gilmartin/S. Brown/B. Conroy/L. Casey/ C. Deery/ M. Lavin/ A. Bonnicci/ R. Kearney/ C. Flanagan/ S. Mullens.Managers V. Flanagan and K. McKeon. I hope to have a team pic. up on facebook tonight.

The Cooney Motors/ Cooney's Centra Juniors, with a good mix of youth and experience, had a comprehensive 2.15. to 1.1 win over St Ronans in Ballyfarnon on Sunday. It was good to see Declan McGovern back in action. The 13 –a-side team was: T. McGarty/J. Regan/D. Mattimoe/Ml. Hanmore/C. Goldrick/D. Kelly/S. Tonra/ J. Suffin/C. Tivnan/Ml. Lavin/S. Spellman/M. Goldrick/ D. McGovern and M. O’Donohoe. Fair play to Bernie Shannon for getting a team out (and to those who turned out) on this occasion as there were a number of defections for whatever reasons. It is important to have this Junior team playing to give extra players (from the Intermediate team) extra games. Their next outing will be against St. Michael's in Boyle later this month which should be a decent outing.
The McGovern Directional Drilling intermediates played out a hard earned draw against Michael Glaveys on Saturday in Ballinlough in the Division 2 League (O'Gara Cup). The result there was Boyle 2.10 Ml. Glavey’s 1.13. This was a mixed bag of a game with periods and incidents of frustrating play rescued by short bursts of very good play. The usual aspects showed such as losing possession/not securing possession/sloppy passing/not enough breaks being hovered up etc.
Note: If a free is given aganist you do not be so poite as to hand your opposite number the ball!
It was good to see a fine performance by Mark O’Donohoe who scored 2.3 aided by Enda Smith with 5 and Ray Hannon with 2 points.. the team was; C. Beirne/K. Supple/D. Callaghan/M.Goldrick/Ml. P. Gilmartin/C. Cox/ Ml. Hanmore/E. Smith/C. Cox/M.O’Connor/R. Hannon/M. O’Donohoe/D.O’Connor/T. Lowe  with D. Kelly and M. O’Connor. While Glavey’s were a fairly smart, fit, young team it is probable that Boyle have yet to meet the top guns in this league. Their next outing will be against St Dominic's (a tough gun) in Boyle on Easter Sunday, March 24th.

The National Automation Limited Minors are expected to have an away league game against Padraig Pearses next weekend. In their first game they had a win over St. Brigid’s. This should be one of the signature teams of Boyle this season.

The three Boyle Clubs--the Senior Club, the Minor Club and the Ladies Club have combined to arrange a "Cash for Clobber" clothes collection fundraiser. All householders in the Club area are asked to do a "spring clean" of their wardrobes and bedrooms to get rid of old and unwanted clothes. Bags of clean clothes will be collected in the Clubroom on each of the following Saturdays --16th, 23rd and 30th March between 12 noon and 2pm. Alternatively, arrangements can be made with any of the Club officers. The Club is glad to announce that the scarf which was in the Club's possession since Christmas has been re-united with its owner. The jacket remains on our hands, and unless an owner comes forward within the current week, it will join the Club's clothes collection.

Well done to the big number of Boyle personnel especially to James and Enda O’Boyle, Fergal O’Donnell/Dara Callaghan/ Ml. Gilmartin/ Kit O’Connor/A.N.Other for their involvement in the  fine and successful Minor team fundraising quiz in the Abbey Hotel on Saturday night last.

The Club extends its best wishes to St Brigids and hopes that it will bring the Andy Merrigan Cup to Kiltoom on St Patrick's Day.

Sympathy is extended to the Cregg family, Ballymore on the death of Eugene.

Ladies Club;
The U16 girls and the Intermediate Ladies both lost to respective St Ciarans opposition in Fuerty on Sunday. It is understood that they will also have games next weekend.
Registration for ALL girls will take place in the Clubroom on this Tuesday 12th from 7pm to 8pm. There will be registration for all Intermediate players on Wednesday night in the Clubroom before commencement of training.

The house prize was won by Louise Gaffney. The numbers drawn were 2/11/22/23. The jackpot wasn't won and it will be at €3,100 for next Saturday night's draw which will be held in Wynnes.
