Lotto:The following were €20 winners at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in An Craoibhin; Tom and Mary McKeon, Jonathan Wynne, Karl Keenan, Christy Dolan, James Cox, Francis Harrington, Joe McDermott, Matt Tivnan, Michael Conroy and Cian Smith. The House Prize was won by Adrian King. There was no jackpot winner and the jackpot of €3,700 will be on offer for this week's draw which will be held on Saturday night next in Dodd's. Well done to all involved in organising the U8/U10 football blitz which was held in the Abbey Park recently. The U12s have finished their league programme. The U14s have qualified for the play-off stages and they await news of their next fixture. It is expected that the U16s will commence their championship on Sunday evening next 3rd July when they host Clan na Gael in the Abbey Park. The National Automation Limited minors await the commencement of their championship, but with the welcome success of the County team, its unlikely that there will be any fixtures in the immediate future. Well done to the County Minors on their great win over Mayo in Castlebar on Sunday and to our representatives Donal, Enda and Tadhg with special mention of the Smith brothers on their goal and point scoring exploits. The Cooney Motors/Cooney Centra team commence their County Junior A Championship on Friday evening next at 8pm against Castlerea St Kevins in the Abbey Park. The McGovern Directional Drilling team will play Kilbride in Kilbride on this evening (Tuesday) at 8pm in the O'Rourke Cup. They also await news of their Intermediate Championship Quarterfinal fixture versus Kilglass Gaels. Roscommon U16 panel will play Sligo in a friendly in the Abbey Park on this Wednesday evening at 8pm. Boyle has strong representation on this panel. The Club extends good wishes for a speedy recovery to senior team captain Ciaran Supple who hs undergone a knee operation. Club player Marcus Kennedy is wished "bon voyage" as he becomes another victim of emigration. Hopefully we will see him in a Boyle jersey before too long. The Club extends its appreciation of the catering staff who fed a multitude at the recent Intermediate Championship double header in the Abbey Park. All team managers and players are reminded to ensure that all plastic bottles are emptied and placed in the recycling bins that are provided in the pitch and also to ensure that the dressing rooms are left in clean condition following training sessions and games. They are also requested to ensure that the plastic bins in the dressing room are respected and not used as footballs. All motorists driving into and out of the Abbey Park are asked to obey the 5km/h speed limit which is being imposed. Football supporters who have not yet purchased a ticket for the upcoming County Board draw are asked to contact any of the Club officers. With the County teams enjoying substantial success, your support would be appreciated.

Boyle Ladies Club;
The Ladies Club hosted a very successful U10 girls football blitz on Saturday last in the Abbey Park, with teams from Western Gaels, Shannon Gaels and Boyle participating. A great time was had by all. Thanks to Fergal O'Donnell who presented the medals. Thanks also to referees Michael Brennan and Sarah Halligan and to the ladies who did an exellent job of catering. A special word of thanks to Mary Magee of Magee Fashions, Boyle who sponsored a set of jersies for the U10 panel. The U12 s continue training as usual. They will be hosting a friendly game with a club from Co. Mayo shortly. The U14s train on Wednesdays and Fridays. The Junior Ladies had a deserved win over Shannon Gaels in the Junior Championship in Croghan on Sunday evening. The Ladies Club congratulates Club player Sharon Conroy on celebrating a significant birthday recently and Donal and Enda Smith and the Roscommon Minors on their magnificent win on Sunday in Castlebar.

A Chara, Roscommon Coaching and Games Development in conjuction with Roscommon Sport Partnership board are holding a four hour training day for coaches who work with kids with disabilities in sport. The course is on next Wednesday June 29th in the Quad Centre Roscommon Town from 10am to 2pm. Places are limited and the cost is 20 Euro. Please check with anyone in your club that might be interested in doing the course. Please get back to me by Monday 27th at the latest.

This is National Bike week and there is a bike run on Sunday. Ireland is way behind other European countries in this regard. In the fifties we were ahead for a different reason! I met a Dutch lasdy studying here this week and she couldn't understand the culture of car ferrying children to school.

The U10s’ and U8s’ will play Elphin in a special blitz competition on this Thursday evening in the Abbey Park.
The U12s’ lost to Clan na Gael during the week.
The U14s’ had a good win over Strokestown in the Championship on Thursday evening last in Boyle. Their next outing is against St Dominick’s in Knockcroghery on this hursday evening.
The U16s’ and the National Automation Limited minors will start their competitions in early July and training is ongoing.
The Cooney Motors/ Cooneys Centra juniors commence their championship campaign on Friday week the 1st of July with a home game against Castlerea.
The highlight of the weekend was the McGovern Directional Drilling Intermediate team's hard earned win over St Michael's in the George Bannon Sports Intermediate Championship courtesy of two excellent late points from Liam Conroy. Cometh the hour (nearly) cometh the Conroy. St. Michael’s were quick out of the blocks and at one time in the first half went into a significant lead but a cheeky improvised goal by Darren O’Connor (to keep the sequence going) brought Boyle back into the game. This was followed by a very well taken goal by the impressive David Callaghan. David is maturing and has the potential to become a key player for Boyle. Boyle was lucky to go in at half time on level terms but they were playing against a very strong wind. Boyle went into a four point lead in the first part of the second half but to my mind did not use the breeze enough to get the ball forward out of danger and into attacking zone. Another issue was the use of the ‘lost’ zones in the corners. Anyway St. Michael’s stuck to their task with a grim determination and this resulted in a keenly fought ending with the sides level as time ticked away but Conroy, a great servant of Boyle club for decades now, getting the vital scores which were simplicity personified. (Note to newer generation of Boyle players, Liamo won’t always be there to dig you out). For Boyle Tadgh Lowe in goals was faultless, the full back line was stretched at times. Boyle’s top player this season, in my book, Mark O’Connor provided the rock at half back while Seanie Purcell provided the subtlety and nuanced play which is so important. The forwards had their moments with hard work by Kyle McLoughlin but it took the introduction of experience to do the simple translation into scores. A win is a win and a win after a very competitive game has to be more beneficial than not. This means that they have remained unbeaten throughout the three game group phase of the championship and they are now in the quarter finals. Final score Boyle 2.8 St. Michael's 1.10. Thanks to all who helped out at the double header in the Abbey Park on Saturday evening last, especially those involved in pitch preparation, operation of scoreboard, the Club Lotto ticket sellers and those involved in traffic management and stewarding. There was a fine response to the call for stewards.
The Club officers still have some tickets for the County Board fundraising draw, as you might imagine! It is important for the longterm financing of the Club that its quota of tickets is sold as it will reduce the cost of club affiliation next year.
Congratulations to former Club player Pat Carty and his bride Olivia Gilligan who got married recently. Best wishes to the Roscommon minor team and management in the Connacht Semi Final in Castlebar on Sunday next, and especially to our three Boyle representatives, Donal and Enda Smith and Tadhg McKenna.

Big day in St. Joseph's Boys N.S. today Friday.

Two big games in the Abbey Park tomorrow evening Sat. We need plenty of stewards. Ml. Furey is looking after that. If anyone can spare a half an hour from 5 on give me a bell at 086 816 33 99 and I'll pass it on.

I was in the park a couple of times in the last week and the parking there is chaotic and may be even dangerous. People need to park in a more rational way if we are not to reintroduce the restriction on cars coming in there altogether, which would be a pity but....

I've said this numerous times but the blue bin is for recycling, the green bins are for garbage. Empty the bottles please before disposal. The bins are sometimes as if there were concrete blocks inside them with all the water in the bottles. It's the little things which knaw at the nerve ends!

Well done to Ros. on Sunday, nice pass from Seanie to Devaney, the icing on the cake. A Srpringly big crowd considering the weather and the exhorbitant prices. The Connacht Council are not willing to lsten to delegate compaints on that. They'll lose a goodwill before they change, then too late. One has to feel for Leitrim and its supporters. One of the first Connacht C'Ship games I remember was Leitrim V Galway in St. Coman's Park 57/58 when Packie McGarty was in his prime and blacguarded that day by a Galwy defender as far as I remember.

I am still loking for the H.J.Feely Cup which can only be gone out in the last four years or so. Obviously the person involved is not a reader of this col.

1. Commiserations to St. Joseph's Boys School who were defeated in the Top Schools final at a congested kilbride today Tuesday. The school has a big day on Friday with the official opening of their splendidly refurbished buildings and grounds. It is a really admirable complex now and we are really lucky, in the parish, to have got in under the bar before the meltdown.

2. The next campaign is the County Board/Club €100 Draw.

There are two 'big' games in Boyle on Saturday evening. Boyle v St. Michael's at 5.30 and Ballinameen v St. Barry's afterwards and there is an expectation of a lot of traffic. Many will want to park on the half way line!!

There will be no parking in the Church grounds due to the Saturday evening Mass.

Also people are reminded that the Abbey roadside has double yellow lines!!

We are asking local Boyle people, going to the match, to leave their transport well away from the ground....please...... say The Crescent/Hall area/Green St. car park/Military Road.

Perhaps St. Michael's suporters might use the area in the vicinty of the Boys School. Another posssible area is in front of Boyle Celtic grounds.

Our U12s’ lost to St Brigids during the week. They have two scheduled games this week-both at home. They will play Strokestown on Wednesday and Clann na Gael on Fiday. Both fixtures are scheduled for 7pm and they will be accompanied by Division 5 games with the same opposition. (I didn’t know there was a Division 5. T.C.)
The U14s lost their first championship outing against St Ciaran’s on Thursday last. They will play Strokestown in the Abbey Park on this Thursday at 7pm in the next round of the championship.
Abbey Park will be the venue for a George Bannon Intermediate Championship third round double header on Saturday evning next. Boyle' McGovern Directional Drilling team will take on neighbours St Michael’s while Ballinameen take on St Barrys. All Boyle Club members are asked to assemble at the Clubrooms an hour in advance of the commencement of the first game to be allocated stewarding duties. All who have been allocated tickets to sell for the County Board Draw are asked to complete their sales immediatly and return the counterfoils and money to Mary Smith, Treasurer. Those who wish to purchase tickets are asked to contact any of the Club officers immediatly so that they can be included in the first tranche of draws.

Commiserations to our U12 panel who were unlucky in their Division 1B Semi Final against St Croan’s. Good luck to Croan’s in the final. This panel continues training every Monday and Friday as they will be hosting a challenge match with Westport in July. The U14s’ continue training every Wednesday and Friday evening. Their next game is scheduled for 24th June away to St Ciaran’s. The U16s’ are awaiting confirmation of arrangements for their County Final versus Padraig Pearses. The Junior Ladies next game is away to Shannon Gaels in the Championship on the weekend of June 24th. They also have their League Final versus St Mary's scheduled for the wekend of 3rd July at a time and venue to be confirmed. Hard luck to the Roscommon U14 girls who lost to Tipperary in the All Ireland Final in Banagher on Saturday last. Well done to the panel including four Boyle girls and to team Manager Pat Leonard and his assistants.
