Boyle GAA Notes Monday November 24th

Intermediate/O’Gara Cup League for ’09:
It was "mission accomplished" for the McGovern Directional Drilling team which gained promotion to the O'Gara Cup League for next season following receipt of a walkover in the Tansey Cup semi-final on Sunday morning last in Fuerty. It was disappointing that St. Faithleach’s were unable to field a full team but after conceding the game they sportingly agreed to play a shortened friendly which gave all players, from both sides, a chance of some football. Boyle now features in the Tansey Cup final and could/should ensure that we have some silverware to display at Christmas. Their opponents there will be the winners of Kilglass and Ballinameen. While Ballinameen have not played much football for a while Kilglass will be knocked back a bit by their comprehensive loss in the Connacht Junior Final. So Boyle has every opportunity of collecting this trophy.

Juniors versus St. Michael’s:
The Feelystone junior team will meet St. Michael’s, in Ballyfarnon, on Saturday at 2.30pm, in the Division 4 North Junior Final. Full support will be appreciated. St. Michael’s will be buoyed by their upcoming participation in the Celebrity Bannisteoir.

Ahern Cup Final:
The U 16s’ will play Michael Glavey’s in the Ahern Cup Final in Boyle on Saturday week the 6th of December.

Club Meeting:
An important meeting of the Club takes place in the Royal Hotel on this Tuesday night the 25th at 8.30.

Defibrilator Damage:
The Club expresses its revulsion at the thoughtless action of whoever interfered with the defibrillator which is located in the Abbey Park. This act of wanton vandalism could have serious repercussions had it been needed before the damage was noted. The relevant authorities are investigating and if anyone has any information on the incident they should get in touch with the Club officers or the Gardai.

Lotto Win:
Congratulations are extended to Gerry and Phil Emmett on winning the Club's Lotto jackpot of €2,400 at the weekend.

Congratulations:
Congratulations are also extended to Rory O'Donoghue and Sinead Regan on their recent engagement and to Jonathan Conroy who graduated at Sligo IT at the weekend and to all other Boyle natives who graduated in Sligo IT. It is understood that Jonathan's thesis is sports related in terms of referees and I look forward to reading it.

Boyle Ladies Club:
The Ladies Club extends its best wishes to club stalwart Laura Gannon who will be making her trip to South Africa this week with the Niall Mellon Trust. Laura's building skills will be of great benefit to the ladies team next season!

Date for Diary:
DATE TO REMEMBER-Saturday 27th DECEMBER-Ladies Club Christmas Party-more details in coming weeks.

Intermediate’s Must-Win Game:
Boyle Intermediate/Tansey Cup team play St. Faithleach’s in the Tansey Cup semi-final on Sunday morning next at 11.30am in Fuerty pitch. The winner of this game goes up to the O’Gara Cup league while the loser is consigned to the Angola of the Tansey Cup for another year. So this is probably the most important game for the team this year and everybody needs to have this on board and St. Faithleach’s need to be taken very seriously. The job needs to be done as this was the prime objective this year. In going to the Fuerty pitch you must go out by Athleague (as there is a closed road out by the convent). In Athleague, go down past their pitch for about a mile and a half and turn left (it is actually the FIRST left on that road) and you will come to the pitch after a short mile or so. If anyone has any problems give me a ring on 086 816 33 99. You should allow the guts of half an hour from Roscommon town. I also recommend car pooling!
U 21's Bow Out:
Our Think Energy U21s bowed out of the championship at the weekend by drawing with Strokestown in Strokestown. They played well but concentration on achieving a number of early goals, to help erase a large scoring-average deficit, meant that point-scoring opportunities were not availed of. I also believe that a narrow victory would have done as well but I’m sure they were aware of that. The absence of Cian smith and Conor Boylan was a big loss as this was a good team. It will be interesting to see how Strokestown progress. Thanks to the lads and the management for their commitment.

Division 4 League Semi-Final:
We now know that St Michael's will be our opponents in the Division 4 semi final - see fixtures for possible details of this game.
U 16 Ahern Final:
It is expected that the Ahern Cup final between Boyle and Michael Glaveys will be played on 30th Nov.

Minor Club Meeting:
The Minor Club will hold a special meeting in the Royal Hotel on this Thursday night 20th at 8.30pm to formulate motions for the forthcoming County Minor Board AGM. A full attendance is requested.

Club Lotto:
The Club Lotto was held on Saturday night last in the Craoibhín. The jackpot was not won. The numbers drawn were 10, 15, 21, 23.The €20 winners were David Casey, Mary Rushe, Pamela Healy, Jason Harrington, Dee Molloy, Geraldine Daly, Christy Grehan, Gino and Catherine Mattimoe, Morgan McGowan and Tommy Cunningham. The house prize was won by Joe McNama. This week’s Lotto draw will be held in ‘An Crannóg’ with Kathleen Hanmore's team in charge. The jackpot will be €2,400.

Good Luck:
To Mark O’Donohoe on his travels. Congratulations to Rory and Sinead on their engagement. Well done to St. Michael’s on being selected to take part in the T.V. Celebrity Bainisteoir which was a big hit programme last year. It is sure to create a stir in the area and we wish them well. It is good to see that Roscommon’s first game in ’09 on January the 4th will be played in Boyle versus Sligo I.T in the F.B.D. league.
