The Club’s social event of the year i.e. The Annual Quiz in St Joseph’s Hall, on Friday night last, was once again an outstanding success, with in excess of fifty teams pitting their wits against Tony Conboy’s excellent set of topical, quirky and challenging questions. The Egan Family and friends, Ballytrasna came out on top. They were closely followed by a Boyle/St Michaels combination, and another two local combinations just one mark behind in joint third. Thanks to all who supported this event. Thanks also to all who helped in preparing the hall in advance and in its reinstatement on the following day. The Club also thanks Trojan Software for provision of IT equipment and James and Enda O’Boyle for operating the equipment on the night. Thanks to Tony-assisted by Enda O’Boyle- for his work in setting and asking the questions.

It was a source of disappointment that the charity football challenge game between the 2005 and 2013 Intermediate Champions couldn’t take place on St Stephen’s Day because of a frozen pitch. It is hoped that it can be re-scheduled for a another suitable date.

The Senior Club AGM will be held in the Clubroom on Saturday evening 18th January. Nomination Forms have been issued to all members and they should be completed and returned to the Secretary, Kathleen Hanmore within the coming two weeks. It is to be hoped that a number of new/young/enthusiastic members will make themselves available for positions in running the club and keeping up the high standards set by the outgoing committee which has done outstanding work in recent years. A number of outgoing officers have served their terms and are obliged to step down this year. They include the Chairman, Aidan Lavin; Secretary, Kathleen Hanmore and Ass. P.R.O. Tony Conboy.

The Club wishes to thank James O’Boyle for his kind donation of a momento of the Roscommon All Ireland winning Minor Football team, which has been signed by panel members Cian Smith and Ciaran Cox as well as Manager Fergal O’Donnell and selector Stephen Bohan. It has been placed proudly on display in the Clubroom.

******There will be a special event in the Clubroom on 23rd January when a plaque will be unveiled to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the foundation of the Roscommon County Board in Boyle on January 23rd 1889*****.

Proposed Historic GAA Picture display in Boyle GAA Clubrooms.

Among the projects that it is hoped to carry out early this  year is that of putting on display a representative exhibition  of club pictures collected over the years. These include a few pre. the 1950s’ and a rising graph of pics. from the latter ‘60s’. Also it is hoped to display a very good collection of Roscommon county pics. especially pertaining to the period 1938 to 1953. All this will take funding if it is to be done properly and if anyone is interested in sponsoring/contributing to aspects of this display they might contact t.c. _

****The quality of the display will hinge on the outlay that can be spent on same. This will have to be sourced independently of Club normal, essential, funding.**** (t.c.)

Plans are in preparation for the Club’s presentation dinner dance--details will be announced very shortly.

Sympathy is extended to the Wynne Families, Boyle on the death of Mrs Maura Sheahan, Longford.

The Club (Senior, Minor and Ladies) wishes all players, members, supporters, sponsors and all who provide media coverage, a very happy, healthy and sporting New Year.
A Bon Voyage to our Christmas visitors who are returning to various parts of the world as we speak. We hope you had a good Christmas in Boyle.

Final preparations are ongoing for the Club’s biggest social event of the year--the Annual Monster Christmas Quiz, which will be held in St Joseph’s Hall on Friday the 27th of December. This is always a great opportunity to meet with our returned exiles and to discuss the happenings of the year gone by, as well as pitting of wits on Tony Conboy’s questions. Proceedings will commence at 8.30pm.

It was expected that the playing season had ended, but plans are afoot for a special charity football match to be played at 12.30pm on St Stephen’s Day in the Abbey Park between the Intermediate champions of 2005 and the current champions. This should be a very special event as bragging rights will be clearly established by whichever team comes out on top. More importantly, the proceeds from the occasion will be donated to SHOUT (Sligo Hospital Oncology Unit Trust) and a large attendance would be appreciated to raise funds for this worthy cause.

The following were €20 winners at Saturday night’s Club Lotto draw which was held in The Patrick’s Well;- Stephen Bohan, Aaron O’Connor, Trevor Conroy, Denis Flanagan, Hugh McPadden and the Dodd Family. The house prize was won by Michael Burke. The next draw will be held in Kate Lavins on Saturday night 28th December, when the jackpot will be at €5,200 and Team B will be in charge.

Plans are in progress for a fundraising initiative early in the New Year.

The Club’s Annual Dinner Dance will be held in early February--more details in the coming weeks.

The Club--Minor and Senior and Ladies Club extend Christmas greetings to all our players, management teams, sponsors, supporters and lotto ticket purchasers and also all who provide us with excellent media coverage.

We urge everyone in the locality to shop local and to support the businesses who continue to generously sponsor our Club.

The following were €20 winners at the most recent Boyle GAA Club Lotto draw which was held in Clarke’s Bar; Gerry Nerney, Lorcan Egan, Seamus and Marie Gallagher, Paul Moylan, P.J. Kelly and Bernard Furey. The jackpot wasn’t won and it will be at €5,100 for next Saturday night’s draw which will be held in Patrick’s Well. Team A will be in charge.
The playing season drew to a close for the Club teams on Wednesday night last in Johnstown, when the Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra juniors lost to Clan na Gael in the Division 4 League Semi Final. Thanks to the lads who travelled distances in mid week to fulfil the fixture. Thanks to the panel and management for their commitment throughout a long season. While no silverware was won, they have had a number of memorable victories in both league and championship. Thanks also to the Clan na Gael Club for their hospitality on the night.
The Abbey Park hosted what is likely to be its last game of the season on Saturday last with the playing of the Minor Division 2 League Final between St Faithleachs and Tulsk. Congrats to St Faithleachs on their victory and to Tulsk on winning the Underage Club of the Year award. Thanks to all Club members who helped with the hosting of the game.
The Club will be represented at the County Convention on this Tuesday night
Preparations are well advanced for the Club’s Christmas Quiz which will be held in St Joseph’s Hall on Friday night 27th December. This event is traditionally an occasion when the locals and the returned diaspora get a chance to meet up and pit their wits.

Boyle’s Abbey Park had one of its biggest crowds of the year on Saturday last when the Club hosted  the Garda Cup and Keenan Cup finals. Tulsk overcame Strokestown in an excellent Garda Cup (U 13) Final. Garda Michael Pilkington presented the Garda Cup on behalf of the Boyle Garda District while Loyola and Melissa Kelly were present to present the player of the match award in memory of the late Sergeant John Kelly.
Our own Boyle U11s had a good win over a gallant St Michaels team in the Keenan Cup Final in what was an exceptional game of football. The scoreline wasn’t an accurate reflection of the game as St Michael’s played excellent football and played their hearts out until the final whistle. Mary Keenan Doyle and Fiona Keenan were on hand to present the Keenan Cup and the player of the match award on behalf of the Keenan family. The Club extends its best wishes to Ernie Keenan for a speedy recovery following a recent accident. Thanks to all who assisted in the smooth  running of the finals, especially the Minor Club officials who catered for the multitudes.
The National Automation Limited U21s went down to a superior Roscommon Gaels side in the Division 1 County Final in Enfield on Sunday. The team has had a fine season and while it is disappointing to come up short in the final, the lads should take heart from getting to the final as most of the panel will be eligible again next year. Also it has to be taken on board that they were beaten by what must be among the best U 21 sides in many years. Another consideration is that while the Roscommon Gaels U 21 panel could be together for numerous collective training sessions ( as referred to at the Cup presentation) this was not the case with Boyle who had the Intermediate series running which included half the team. Another factor was the loss of Donie Smith. Thanks to the panel and the management team for their commitment throughout the season. The Club congratulates a finely balanced Roscommon Gaels side on their success which should lead to a revival of the Gaels as a force in senior football.
The Cooney Motors/ Cooney’s Centra juniors will play Clan na Gael in the Division 4 League Semi Final in Johnstown on this Wednesday night at 8.30pm. This is a very important game for the Club as victory would ensure Tansey Cup football in 2014. The Tansey Cup is a good and reliable competition and being there would ensure regular and good games.
Arrangements are being put into place for the annual Christmas Quiz which will be held in St Joseph’s Hall on Friday 27th December. This is traditionally a special night for the parish and those returning for Christmas are reminded to enter the date in diaries.
Sympathy is extended to the O’Boyle family on the death of Mrs Mae O’Boyle.
The Club (male and female sections) extends best wishes to Ladies Club player Sinead Cummins who will wed Trevor Conroy on Friday next.
