Thurs. 9.15pm: The jerseys in question below have surfaced. All is sorted, next business. I just saw a very impressive performance by the under 14 side as they easily overcame St. Dominick's. There are many fine players on this side. I only got the end of the U12s' game last evening as they were unlucky to lose out to a late St. Brigid's rally. There were a number of fine performances here also.
Best wishes to Darren O'Connor who has arrived in New York. Darren played a lot of good football for Boyle this year and indeed for many years. Hopfully we'll keep the fire lit until the business end of things in the Autumn when you return. Enjoy Gaelic Park. I did when it was a dust bowl but great fun in the environs!
Best of luck and support for Boyle GAA stalwart Dessie McLoughlin who is in training to climb Mt. Blanc in his Alzheimers fund-raising campaign. He deserves all our support as he himself has always supported so many causes.
Prospective Oz football travellers remember Ciaran Conlon's offer for Brisbane.
Sin e for now.
Wed. 11am: I am disappointed that there has been no response to my search for a set of Boyle jerseys from last year with the David O'Connor auctioneers logo on them. They were, I'm told, used at under 16 level. So have another look in the garage or wherever, please! The success rate of this col. in such matters is pretty good so let's keep thinking positive sorta!
9.30:(By Tony Conboy/Martin Dolan).I've just had an interesting communication from Ciaran Conlon in Brisbane. He is very involved with a GAA football club there by the name of John Mitchell's. (I hadn't heard John had emigrated!). Ciaran would be interested in hearing from any footballers who envisage being in Brisbane, not just from Boyle club. So if anyone wants Ciaran's contact details give me a bell. He says they might also be able to help in a job search for such players.
Lotto: The following were €20 winners at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in the Moving Stairs recently;- Brian and Helen Nerney, Joseph McDermott, Joe Tormey, Paul and Anita Kearney, Canon Gerry Hanley, Monica Daly, Morgan Mulhern, John Gallagher, Mary Moran and Paul Kelly (Ballinameen). The numbers drawn were; 13/14/16/19. The house prize was won by Kevin Harrington. The jackpot was not won. It will stand at €4,200 for this week's draw which will be held in An Craoibhín on this Saturday night. Team E will be in charge.
The U14s lost in Kiltoom to a strong St Brigids team last Thursday. They will have St Dominics in the Abbey Park on this Thursday at 7pm.
The U12s will host St Brigids on this Wednesday at 7pm in the Abbey park.
The Feelystone junior team had a good win over Kilbride in Boyle in the Tansey Cup on Wednesday last. This win leaves them in a position to qualify for the play-offs if they can win their remaining games. Neither they nor the McGovern Directional Drilling senior team have any games this weekend as the Championship gets under way and Boyle have a bye in the first round.
Well done to Fergal, Stephen, Joe, and Sean and the Roscommon team on getting a good result in Ruislip. This sets up the local derby with Leitrim in three weeks time at Hyde Park. Well done also to the County U15 Development Squad which included Boyle players and management who also had a successful weekend in London.
Thanks to Kathleen Hanmore, Mary Smith and Mary Clifford who catered for a multitude in the Clubroom following the special Mass on Wednesday last.

Wed. 10am.
1. The jerseys were used at U 16 level last year I'm told. Missing but have to be around. The club is looking/searching for an O'Neills set of jerseys with the David O'Connor, Auctioneering logo on them. They are missing for a while so if anyone has ideas re same please get in touch with me or the club chairman. They are probably in some garage or some such.
2. I am reminded that I left out Joe Sweeney from the best wishes section for activities this coming week-end in London. Sorry Joe. Also best wishes to the Oz crew: Ciaran Keenehan mining in Western Oz; Killian (with a K) Egan, Roch Hanmore, Damien Keenehan, Conor Boylan, Mark O'Donohoe, Ciaran Conlon, master Monson in N.Z. also Damien Dooley and Peter Conroy in the U.S. I presume I've left somone out there. I'm not well up at all on the ladies panel apart from Miss Mulvihill in California and Mis Keville in Kentucky.
3. Paddy did the guide arrive?

The Club wishes to inform all team managers and members and users of the facilities that the defibrillator has been relocated to the new clubrooms.
All team managers are asked to take responsibility to ensure that windows are closed and doors are locked when leaving the old dressingrooms and to take in flags from the pitch after games. Also don't forget the proper use of bins.
Best wishes are extended to Fergal and Stephen and the Roscommon senior panel, especially Sean and David as they travel to Ruislip for the Connacht Senior Championship encounter with London and to all who are making the trip at the weekend. This includes the County U15 Development Squad which includes four Boyle Club members Eoin Lavin, Micheál Lavin, Colm Goldrick and Luke Brennan as well as mentors Seamus Gallagher and Bernard Shannon.
The U12s suffered defeat to both Clan na Gael and St Dominics during the week. The U12 B team also lost to Clan's B squad. The U14s lost narrowly to Clan na Gael on Thursday despite an excellent second half display. They will travel to Kiltoom to play St Brigids on Thursday evening. The U16s got a walkover from Clan na Gael and they secured an excellent two point win over Padraig Pearses in Woodmount on Sunday. They have now qualified for the league Division 1 semi final which will be played after the Junior Cert exams are finished.
The Feelystone junior team had a two point win over the home side in sun drenched Strokestown on Sunday. Boyle 1.12 Strokestown 1.10. See fixtures for details of their next game versus Kilbride. The Ros. co. Bd. website has a very good and quick detail of fixture results and league tables.
The Club is actively promoting the forthcoming County Board fundraising draw.
Last Wednesday night's Club meeting was fullsome in its acknowledgement of the excellent work which has been done by Michael Gilmartin who stepped down as Treasurer as he had flagged in advance that he would do so following the successful completion of the new clubrooms. We welcome Mary Smith on board as our new Treasurer.

Sunday 9.30am.
1. Boyle GAA Meeting:
There will be a meeting on Monday night at 8.30 regarding the County Board €100 Draw. It is imperative that everyone does their bit in respect of this draw as it is the last one of its kind for the County Board.
2.Boyle 'C' Company, 56th Infantry Battalion of the Reserve Defence Forces has arr nged a special Mass to pray for the recovery to good health of Lieutenant General Dermot Earley, Chief of Staff of the Irish Armed Forces. General Earley began his army career in the R.D.F. then the F.C.A. in the mid sixties. The Mass takes place in St Joseph's Church, Boyle on Wednesday evening, May 26th, at 8pm. Boyle GAA Club are also associated with the Mass and cordially invites attendees to light refreshments, in the new Clubrooms, in the Abbey Park, immediately afterwards.
2. The County Board Annual GAA €100 Draw for the finacing of the County teams et al is now on the move. Boyle Club are obliged to sell 150 tickets or be levied the deficit. This is the last of these draws. Clubs of course have real issues in funding themselves, it takes around 50 thousand approx. a year to run a club. Boyle will have ongoing debt repayments for the new dressing rooms. Ireland funding Greece comes to mind a little. Anyway this draw has to be attacked for this year so we are asking all people connected with Boyle to make sure that if they are willing to buy a ticket -and we hope they are- that the ticket is bought from a Boyle GAA source for purposes of counting in their quota. Also it is important to get the brunt of the tickets sold much sooner than later so tie in your potential buyers as early as possible, in the next week or so preferably. We need everybody on board for this effort. If anyone from a distance is interested they can contact me (T.C.) 086 816 33 99 or email tconboy1@eircom.net.

The monthly Club meeting will be held on Wednesday night at 8.30-9pm(?) in the new Clubrooms. The U12s lost to Roscommon Gaels in the Division 1 League last week. The U14s travel to Johnstown on Thursday evening to play Clan na Gael in their Division 1 League game. The U16s are due to play Clan na Gael in the Abbey Park in the Division 1 League on this Tuesday evening-check fixtures for confirmation. The Feelystone junior team will play Strokestown in Strokestown on Saturday evening next in the Tansey Cup. The McGovern Directional Drilling senior team secured senior league football for next year by virtue of their excellent victory over St Faithleach's in Ballyleague on Saturday evening. This was a strong team performance from start to finish against top quality opposition. Tomás is wished a speedy recovery from injury. They have a break for a few weeks until their next game but in the meantime their sights will be set on preparation for the Intermediate Championship. All team managers are advised that only the new dressingrooms are to be used in the future as the old ones are no longer available as dressingrooms. Please ensure that they are kept properly and that the litter regime of rubbish to rubbish bins and recycling to recycling bins, is followed. Congratulations to the Abbey College juvenile team and their management on winning the Connacht Colleges Juvenile Title following their recent victory over St. Endas, Galway. The Club extends its sympathy to the Cummins Family, Kilmore and Swords on the sad passing of Marty Cummins, a member of the 1966 All Ireland winning Roscommon U21 team of 1966.

9.20am. Just a quick message to note a very good win, for Boyle seniors, versus St. Faile's in Ballyleague yesterday evening. I wasn't able to be there but by all accounts it was an excellent overall performance in a very good and enjoyable game which was playeed in an excellent spirit. So well done to all. If you wish to view the league table log into the Roscommon GAA official web site. The updates are effected very quickly. It shows Boyle, whose main concern has been to stay in the top Division this year, they are now in a play-off position. This is an excellent position for the team and the emphasis on a good early start is well validated.
All in the club are sorry regarding Tomas McGarty's injury in training on Friday evening and we hope that it is not serious and that Tomas will be between the posts soon again.

Friday. 9,30am.
Please Please Note: I have just returned from putting out the bins, the 'recycling bins', at the Abbey Park. It has been a frustrating experience. Now if things do not improve, in terms of material being placed in the bins, I will resign from the prestigious position.
The blue bins are for material which can be recycled, essentially the modern phenomena of plastic bottles. Banana skins and food residue etc. are not for recycling. Also, although I think this might be going too far by me, if one emptied the bottles before disposal in the bins it would be a help! This week is a 'recycling' week, sorta.

Now if there is too much rubbish/garbage for the green bins, then it should be left in a rubbish bag and its disposal turn will come. Just don't dump it into the recycling bins. The reason for the overload of debris this week is because of all the games...Roscommon v Clare and Ros. minors v Fermanagh and the food etc. Do not put rubbish in the blue bins.......please.

2. The Boyle Fuerty Tansey Cup game listed for Sunday is off. On Sat. of course there is the Division 1 game v Failes at 5 away.

3. Lotto this Sat. team 'D'. dat's me! I'll post numbers and results on return to here.

Saturday, May 8, 2010

10 pm Just a heads up. The Senior team put in a spirited performance in the second half to get a very important win over Ros. Gaels Boyle 1.10 Roscommon Gaels 0.10. They came from being behind at half-time- Ros. Gaels 0.7 Boyle 0.4. A Liam Conroy goal eight minutes into the second half was the trigger for the swing. There were fine performances, especially in the second half- a poor first half- from a good number of players. The appearance of David Casey for the second half was a great incentive. Ciaran Cox and Cian Smith really got into things in that second half with Darren, Mark, and Aaron O'Connor playing key roles. The backs too did well with Tomas good in goals, Barney had a good hour at corner back. Kieran Supple made a welcome return at full back and had a tough task on O'Gara ably assisted by Cian Beirne The half backs tried hard all through Seanie had a tough duel with Nolan while O'Donnell and Sharkey were always willing to drive forward. Again the scoring from frees taken by Mark O'connor and Cian Smith played a key role in the result. The Boyle team: McGarty/Supple/Supple/Beirne/Sharkey/Purcell/O'Donnell/A.O'Connor 1point /Cox 3/Callaghan/M. O'Connor 4 (3 frees)/ Smith 1/ Karl Feighan/D. O'Connor 1/Conroy goal with D. Casey. We now have 9 points in the Div. 1 League which should mean we will retain Div. 1 football for next year which is a real achievement even by May. Our next game is against table toppere St. Failes. on Wed. of next week.

8.30 gmt. This is just a prelininary line re. yesterday. If anyone is interesting in tasting the first pic. posting, esp. those abroad, tune into: bennymorganflickr.
I was talking to lads, after today's match, (Sunday, against St. Brigid's, lost the second half!) in The Moving Stairs, and the first of my ommisions, from my scribbled ramblings, cropped up in conversation and that was that I had omitted Conor Boylan from list of emigrees. Conor is a temporary emigree and is in the lovely city of Adelaide named after an German princess married to one of the George's from Cloonloo I believe. Anyway it is supposed to be a lovely place and was the home to, but not the birthplace of, the greatest cricketeer of them all...'The Don' ....Donald Bradman. So Conor, if ou trip across this, apologies, take care and I wish you well. (T.C.)
Any other ommisions please let me know. It was a pretty hectic week so that possibility strongly exists.
8.33.5 gmt. Martin Dolan has just sent me his summary of the week-end and here it is hot off the presses:

It was a case of "mission accomplished" for Boyle GAA Club with the official opening of the new clubrooms by John Joe Nerney and Gerry O'Malley on Saturday last. It was a very special occasion for the Club and it featured inspiring addresses made by John Joe and Gerry-both legends of Roscommon football- as were the addresses given by Michael McGuire, Chairperson of Roscommon County Board and by our own Chairperson, Aidan Lavin and by Canon Gerry Hanley who performed the blessing of the building. The occasion was enhanced by expertise and wit of Tony Conboy as M.C.Tony's input into such occasions is immense and is greatly appreciated as is his role in the production of an excellent souvenir booklet to mark the occasion. It outlines the activities of the Club during the past five years as well as containing features on various individuals and happenings. A small number of copies still remain and the are obtainable from any of the Club officers at a price of €5. The large numbers who have been involved in any way in the development of the clubrooms were thanked at the opening and were listed on a Powerpoint presentation which was prepared by Ciaran O'Connor and was on display at the opening. The Club again acknowledges the very many Club members and friends who have given many hours in the "meithils" in the Park in recent weeks to get everything ready for the opening. The day's activities culminated with a well attended social in the Royal Hotel on Saturday night at which the varios Club awards for 2009 were announced and presented. Gerry O'Malley again graced the occasion with his presence where he presented some of the awards. The following were the winners;-Junior Player of the Year-Donal Kelly. Under 21 Player of the Year-Kyle McLoughlin. Senior Player of the Year-Tomás McGarty. Club Person of the Year-Mary Clifford. Hall of Fame winner-Martin Purcell. The only dissappointment of the weekend was the loss of our McGovern Directional Drilling team to St Brigids in the O'Rourke Cup game in Abbey Park on Sunday. What made the outcome especially dissappointing is their collapse in the second half, having led at the interval after having played against a strong breeze. They will have another home game in this competition when they entertain Roscommon Gaels on Saturday evening next at 7.30pm. This is a must-win game to secure O'Rourke Cup status. There was no jackpot winner at the most recent Club lotto draw which was held in the Moylurg Inn recently. The following were €20 winners;-Kevin Mullen, Martin Henry, Eugene and Zita Griffin, Owen O'Donoghue, Trevor Conroy, Sean Nevin, Austin Beirne, Mary McDermott, John Tighe and Itving Stridenski. The house prize was won by Lorcan Egan. This week's draw will be held in Dodd's on Saturday night next with Kathleen Hanmore's team in charge. The jackpot will be €4,000. The Club extends its congratulations to Club players John Healy and Enda Cregg and their respective brides who were married recently.
