U 21s’ Draw and Win:
The U21s’ commenced their championship campaign with a hard earned draw with Eire OG in a wet and windy Abbey Park on Saturday. Then in their second game, on Bank Holiday Monday, against St Ciaran’s in Fuerty they had a good victory; Boyle 0.17 St. Ciaran’s 1.11. Regrettably I was unable to attend and hopefully I’ll get some detail of this win. I imagine also that the side are also in the final shake up of the competition as a result of these results.

Bon Voyage:
Best wishes are extended to Damien Keenehan who begins his travels this week in going to New Zealand. Damien has been a pivot of Boyle teams since he was under 10 and has come back to the top with great determination after a very arm injury. Boyle Ladies Club;
The U14 girls bowed out of the championship after a very exciting semi final against Roscommon Gaels on Saturday evening in the Abbey Park. This was a game where goals and excitement were a plenty. Boyle had built up what looked like a match-winning lead in the middle of the second half but failed to close the door as the Italians might do. Ros. Gaels came back strong and snatched victory at the end. While Boyle amassed a substantial early lead, the Roscommon Gaels girls finished the stronger and held out for a two point win. It was an excellent and exciting game with an amount of skill and determination on display. Boyle as one observer said ‘gave it their all and had little left in the tank by the end’. It was disappointing but encouraging for the future as there are a lot of fine young players on board. So here’s to next season. The Club wishes to thank the management team of Nicole, Sinead and Gavin and the girl’s themselves for their hard work and dedication throughout the season, as well as their parents/guardians for their involvement. Girls U16 training will begin in December as the U16 competitions will commence in February. More details to follow.

Juniors Fall Just Short:
Boyle's Feelystone team were gallant losers to Clann na Gael in the County Final of the Junior ‘B’ Championship on Saturday last in Fuerty. It was a game that was very evenly contested for the most part. Clann had that mix of youth and experience that saw them shade the issue. They were more precise in their construction, had a number of strong older players in key positions and some lively fast players on the wings. Their goalie too chipped in with two fine match-winning saves, one in the first half from Brian McCrann and the second from a penalty 13 minutes into the second half. Ciaran Beirne the Boyle goalie also saved a Clann penalty in the first and they had a goal disallowed for a square ball infringement. Clann were on top somewhat through the first half and led at half-time on the score of Clann 0.8 Boyle 0.5. A major contributor to Clann’s tally came from their excellent free-taker, number 10, Conor Duignan. Boyle were more in charge through the second half and eventually clawed their way back to level terms to 10 all on 27 minutes. Boyle had the opportunity to go forward but a poor, quickly taken, free led to a Clann break which ended in their match-winning goal on 28 minutes with an insurance point in injury time. The final score: Clann na Gael 1.11 Boyle 0.10. In fairness neither side could be faulted for effort also the standard, for a junior ‘B’ game, was very good. Best for Boyle, where a number of players were unable to reach the semi-final levels of the Western Gaels game, were Beirne in goals, Healy, Cox and Lyons strove manfully in the backs Ciaran Cox did well at midfield with Lavin contributing a number of sallies and a fisted point. The forwards struggled to get scores and were guilty of some misses. Again Noel McKenna worked tirelessly with Darren O’Connor and Brendan McQuaid. The Boyle team was as follows: C. Beirne, C. Horan, J. Healy (Capt.), J. Lyons, A. Finn, M. O’Donnell, K. Cox, P. Lavin (0.1), C. Cox (0.2), D. Greenan (0.1), D. O’Connor (0.1), D. Kelly (0.1), B. McCrann (0.4, 1X 45 and 3 frees), N. McKenna, R. Walshe, with J. McDermott and B. McQuaid. Thanks to the entire panel and the management team of David O'Connor, Bernie Shannon, Paul Beirne and Dessie McLoughlin.

Dressing Rooms Complex:
Work is well advanced on the construction of our new dressing rooms/club rooms in the Abbey Park and their appearance is the subject of much favourable comment. They will add considerably to the facilities which will be available to our own members and to visiting teams and patrons. It is intended that they will be open in spring of next year.

Boyle Ladies Club;
The U14 girls overcame Michael Glaveys to reach the County Semi Final of the Division 2A competition. They will meet group winners Roscommon Gaels on this Saturday-venue and time to be confirmed. Abbey Park was a hive of activity on Saturday last as the Club hosted a number of County Finals in the other divisions of this competition.

Friday 9 pm:
Just a reminder about the Junior 'B' Final Boyle V Clann na Gael in Fuerty stadium tomorrow Saturday at 5.15. Good luck to all there.

I've just seen, in 'Into the West' (the magazine!), that you can get to this blog straight by logging on to: www.tconboy.blogspot.com....... the backdoor. A nice item and jesture there also dealing with Galway honouring 'Unsung Heroes' of Galway GAA clubs.

A interesting piece in a web site called 'Squareball.com regarding the Cavan All-Ireland Minor finalist Kevin McCormack thought to be dead but who turned up at their 50th anniversary get-together in Cavan in August. Check the pic. of Kevin especially.

Great to see that Bertie (Ahern) has recovered. He has just published his 'Memoirs'. This is a great achievement for a man who was unable to remember who gave him £10,000 a few years ago!

Is there any truth in the rumour that the new Cathairleach of the Dail is going to be Jackie Healy Ray?
C'est la vie.

The jackpot of €2,300 was not won.The €20 winners were as follows; Roy Shannon, Tom Cunningham, Peggy Feely, Marie Lavin, Deirdre Purcell, Josie Daly c/o Dalys', John Mitchell, George O'Connor, Damien Keenehan and Camilla McQuaid. The house prize was won by Gerry Callaghan. This week’s draw will be held in Dalys' with Team 'B' in charge. The jackpot will be €2,400.

Juniors Win Northern C’Ship:
The highlight of the week was the winning of the first siverware of the year, by an adult team, with the winning by the Feelystone team of the North ‘B’ Junior championship following a one point win over a gallant Western Gaels team in Elphin on Saturday on the score of Boyle 0.9 western Gaels 0.8. Playing with a strong wind in the first half Boyle led by 4 points to 3 at half-time. It did not look enough. In that first half Boyle had 8 wides and a couple of missed goal opportunities. The scorers were Donal Kelly 2; Noel McKenna 1; and Darren O’Connor 1. Boyle missed another very good opportunity immediately on the resumption but the expected dominance from Western Gaels did not materialise. The scoring was patchy for both sides, for a time, but three McCrann pointed frees put Boyle in the lead on 22 minutes. However Boyle went into a three point lead coming near the end of the game thanks to Donal Kelly’s two further points. Western Gaels came back with two late points but despite the confusion as to what the final position was –which was unusual- Boyle had edged the win by one point and were obviously delighted to do so. The Boyle team was as follows: C. Beirne, c. Horan, J. Healy (Capt.), J.S.Lyons, A.Finn, Ml. O’Donnell, C. Cox, P. Lavin, C. Cox, D. Kelly (0.4), D.O’Connor (0.1), D. Greenan, B. McCrann (0.3 frees), N. McKenna (0.1), R. Walshe subs. used J. McDermott and B. Harvey.
While I never like singling people out, the Boyle back line did well with Beirne continuing to impress in goals; John Healy putting in a Captain’s shift at full back and Cillian Cox showing his strength and potential at wing back. Midfield was a bit patchy with line balls going astray etc. Noel McKenna worked hard up front and I imagine he was a fine club footballer in his prime. Darren O’Connor also did well as did McCrann, with the frees, in the middle of the second half. ‘Man of the Match’ was the evergreen Donal Kelly. Donal has been one of the unsung heroes of Boyle teams for years and this was another honest and telling contribution here. The team Captain, John Healy, in his acceptance speech, thanked Feelystone for their continuing sponsorship, the team management, his fellow players and panel members and our loyal supporters and the referee and officials, as well as the Western Gaels lads for a sporting game. This team will be back in action on this Saturday evening when they will meet Clan na Gael in the County Junior ‘B’ Final which will be played in Mulhern Park, Fuerty at 5.15 pm. As this will be Boyle's first adult county final of the year, Boyle supporters are asked to come out in large numbers. It will be the second game in a double header as Clan na Gael ‘A’ and St Brigids ‘A’ will meet in the Junior A Final prior to our game.The Club wishes to thank David O'Connor Auctioneering and Corrib Oil for sponsorship of food for the team on their return from Elphin on Saturday.

U 16s’:
