Top Corner:
Club members are trying to sell the Club's 'generous' allocatiojn of €100 tickets for the County Board draw. We did not get too involved in this last year so the pressure is on this year. So if you are approached look sympathetically on the seller, if you can, please!!
La na gClub:
Preparations are well advanced in the preparation of Lá na gClub on Sunday 10th May. There will be a full range of activities on the day to mark the 125th anniversary of the founding of the GAA. It will be a special occasion for the Club and ALL past and present members, male and female are invited to participate. Team managers of all teams in both the men’s club and in the Ladies’ Club are asked to ensure that all their panel members are available to participate in the events which will commence with a parade through the town from the Crescent to St Joseph's Church for 11.30 am Mass .-full details next week. Of course if anyone has any brainwave, imaginative ideas (economical) that would enhance the day let us know!
The Lotto:
I returned to Lotto duty last Saturday night. It is an interesting experience and education. The ould neck needs to be as robust as a jockey’s nether regions. It gives one an excuse –if that is necessary- to visit all town hostelries. I was very impressed by our crew on the night with their efficiency and attention to the detail involved in the process. Openness and transparency. It really is the lifeblood of the club. One must thank the various pubs who allow us to promote the draw in their bars and the courtesy shown. A special word to John Cummins who had a very important night in Daly’s and still encouraged our slightly disruptive intervention. Thanks also to Dennis Dodd, where the draw was held, who was very amenable and helpful on the night.
U 14s’:
Boyle under 14s had a good win over Oran in the Abbey Park on Thursday eveing last, considering that they were short a number of regulars. Some people got animated with a slight confusion over the score but all was in order. The sides will meet again in the Championship. Their next league outing will be to Roscommon on this Thursday when they will take on Roscommon Gaels at 7pm.
U 16s’:
The Under 16s’ will play Michael Glaveys in Ballinlough on this coming Tuesday evening the 28th at 7pm in Ballinlough in the county ‘A’ Semi-Final. This is sure to be a keen encounter and whatever support that could make it to Ballinlough would be appreciated.
Intermediate Team Lose Out:
The McGovern Directional Drillin team suffered a two point defeat at the hands of Roscommon Gaels in Hyde Park on Saturday eveing last. Despite this I am told they still share top spot on the league table. This was a missed opportunity of getting at least a point against a mediocre Roscommon Gaels team. Gaels got a couple of soft enough goals in the first half which made the difference. The score at half time was Roscommon Gaels 2.5 Boyle 1.2. Boyle’s goal came from Cian Smith who was always a danger close to goal but did not get enough supply or support. Gaels seemed to be pulling away but Boyle came back mid way in the second half with another Smith goal and good points from Mark O’Connor and Tadgh Egan. Boyle got to within a point of their opponents and should have got on level terms but failed to do so and the Gaels finished with the telling scores one a free which was brought forward as a result of a Boyle player debating with the referee. The conditions were very difficult with a very slippery surface. Again the ball being given away or robbed on Boyle’s own forty yard line happened too often with the support too slow to get to Smith up front who was the main man here. They play Creggs in the Abbey Park on Sunday in their next O'Gara Cup game.
Juniors:
The Felystone junior team will travel to Ballyfarnon on Monday (May Bank Holiday) to meet St Ronan’s in the next round of the Division 4 North League.
Minors:
The Think Energy minors are expected to play Padraig Pearses on Monday next also.
Congratulations and Best Wishes:
Best wishes are extended to the Club's Assistant Treasurer, Peter Gavigan and his bride to be-Anne Regan- who are getting married on Friday.
Good Luck:
Good luck is also extended to Boyle Celtic Under 14s’ who will play Corofin in the Connacht Cup Final on Sunday next in Newbridge,Co. Galway at 1pm. Well done to Tadgh Lowe and Cillian Cox who starred for Sligo in the Connacht U 16 Rugby Cup last week against Buccanneers. I believe Cillian got a fine try. Maybe we have a future Lion in the club!
Minor Club Meeting:
A meeting of the Boyle Minor Club will be held in the Royal Hotel on this Wednesday at 9pm.

Ladies Club Notes:
Junior Ladies:
Boyle Junior Ladies play Ballinameen this Friday in Ballinameen, this will be an interesting local derby.
U 12 Girls (Lions):
Boyle U12 Girls Panel 'A' (Boyle Lions) had a win against St Croan's in Boyle last Tuesday and played St. Brigid’s in Kiltoom last Sunday, in a closely contested game, in very wet conditions. The game ended in a draw. They
next play Strokestown in Strokestown on Sunday May the 3rd at 6.30pm.
Boyle U 12 (Cubs):
Boyle U12 Girls Panel B (Boyle Cubs) played a much stronger Kilmore last Wednesday in Boyle. They have a bye this week. Great credit is due to this very young panel who give 100% in each game.
Training continues every Monday and Friday.
U14 Girls Training every Tuesday and Friday for this panel.
That's it

Top Corner:
La na gClub
: Because this is the 125th Anniversary of the GAA, May 12th has been nominated as La nag Club or a celebratory day for GAA clubs throughout the country. We are now putting together a two hour programme for that day and we ask all teams, managers, officials --past and present-- and supporters to come on board. We are looking for ideas and support so if you have any ideas get in touch here. Apparently there is also a GAA 125 Schools Day listed for Friday April 24th.

Greetings to our constituents in Australia and abroad generally. I am told that this col. is tuned into there. Greeting in particular to Killian Egan (remember Killian with a K, I believe he has had trouble with that down the years like O’Donohoe and Keenehan).

€100 tickets for the County Board Draw are now being sold. The club has a quota to achieve so make sure if you buy one you get it from a Boyle GAA member and if you can sell a couple all the better. County Board Puncherstown Race Day Thursday April 30th

There is a First Aid course being organised for Saturday May 23rd. Anyone interested should give their name to the Secretary soon, as there is a facility for just a certain number.
The Top Corner is getting full so we’ll leave it at that.
.

Lotto:
There was no jackpot winner in the last Club Lotto draw which was held in the Moylurg Inn. The numbers drawn were 10/13/14/25. The €20 winners were Eugene and Mary Halligan, Paddy and Monica Daly, Eileen and Gerry Callaghan, Tom Callan, Pat and Liz Gannon, Pat Roddy, Tom Connealy, Thomas Brady, John Brennean and Padraig McCrann. The house prize was won by Kieran McCrann. This week’s draw will be held in Dodd’s and Team E under Pat Goldrick will be in charge. Team ‘E’ in the newly revised teams is made up of: Pat Goldrick, Peter Gavigan, Gerard Sheerin, Karl Keenan, Laura Gannon, Sinead Cummins, Tony Conboy, and John Cummins. Meet in Dodd’s at 11.00. The jackpot will be €1,200. It has been won five times in the last year or so.

U 14 s’ Feile Disappointment:
The Under 14s’ (see pic lower down) had an aganising 1 point defeat to Strokestown in the Feile semi-final on Wednesday last. The windy conditions made for a lottery of a game which could have gone either way. There was a thrilling finale with Boyle scoring two goals but this left them still one point short. Well done to the team and their mentors. Best wishes to Strokestown who play Clann na Gael in the final. They have a number of very good players and should go all the way to win the final and thus qualifying to represent the County in the Feile Finals.
The Under 14s’ now have the league to look forward to and they will be back in action in their first league game on this Thursday when they entertain Oran at 7pm.

U 16s’:
The Under 16s’ will play Michael Glavey’s in the championship on Tuesday the 28th in Ballinlough.
Minors:
The ‘Think Energy’ minor team went down to a stronger Castlerea outfit in the Abbey Park on Sunday in a close encounter.

Boyle 2.21 Clann na Gael (Seconds) 0.6.
The McGovern Directional Drilling team stay at the top of the O'Gara Cup table following two comprehensive wins during the week. They beat St Barry’s in Tarmonbarry on Monday last on a scoreline of 4.17 to 0.4 (see last week’s post) and they followed up with a 2.21 to 0.6 win over Clann na Gael in the Park on Sunday. This was a flawless display. There were no weak displays but a number of outstanding ones. Among those were Conor Boylan at full back, Seanie Purcell at centre back Mark O’Connor wing forward and Damien Keenehan at centre-forward. At half-time Boyle led by 1.12 to no score without a wide or a really missed opportunity. Boyle got a little sloppy early in the second half but got going again and cruised home. Clann were surprisingly weak. Just one crib this evening I thought that there was a slowness to avail of the opportunity to use substitutes earlier and perhaps rest the likes of Seanie and Damien as well as giving others reasonable game time.
The team; T. McGarty, B.Supple, C. Boylan, C.Beirne, J.S.Lyons, S. Purcell, Ml. Paul Gilmartin (0.1), C.Cox, S. Tonra (0.1), M.O’Connor (1.6 incl frees), D. Keenehan (1.5), A. O’Connor (0.3), K. McLoughlin ( 0.1 fisted), R. O’Donohoe (?), C. Smith (0.3) with T. Egan (birthday soon), A. Finn, D. O’Connor (0.1 fisted), D. Callaghan, D. Kelly with L.Conroy and Karl Keenan.
Their next outing will be a visit to Hyde Park on Saturday next at 6.30pm to take on a strong Roscommon Gael outfit. This will be third gear, up a hill stuff.

Best wishes are extended to intermediate team Captain and Vice Captain, Brian Supple and Mark O'Connor respectively who were appointed at the weekend.

Abbey College:
The Abbey College second year team are awaiting details of their Connacht Final engagement-this column will keep you posted.

Top Corner; La na gClub N.B.
Sunday May the 12th is designated as La na gClub nationally. This is to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the GAA. While it is a short span until May 10th we are currently putting an approximate two hour programme together for the early afternoon. Hopefully we will get a very good response from all GAA teams, officials, managers and friends, past and present, to be with us on that day to demonstrate the strength and influence of the club in the community. If anyone has any ideas please let me hear from you. We will keep you posted here in the short time until the day.

Boyle Junior Ladies Lose to Oran:
Boyle Junior Ladies played Oran in an exciting game with both teams evenly
matched, Boyle were unlucky to lose by a goal. Their next game is away to
Ballinameen next Sunday the 26th of April at 2.00pm in Ballinameen.

U 12 Ladies:
U12 Girls Panel A - This team now play St Croan's in Boyle this Tuesday
evening at 7.00pm. They are also away to St Brigid's next Sunday, April the 26th at 6.30pm. Full details will be given at training. The Management of this panel would like to thank Eastern Harps for playing a challenge match in Boyle last Saturday which was an excellent display of football by both
teams.
U12 Girls Panel B - This team played their first ever competitive game last
Wednesday, against a more experienced Ballinameen side. Ballinameen won this
game and the management thank Ballinameen for their agreement in having both
panels mixed for the second half. The second half was much more enjoyable
for the young Boyle girls and it was great to see Boyle and Ballinameen
players wearing their oppositions' jerseys with pride. Is there a transfer
window at this age! This team next meet Kilmore in Boyle on Wednesday April 27th at 7.00pm.

Training for U12 Girls Monday and Friday 6-7pm

U14 Girls - Training for this panel is on Tuesdays and Fridays, the
Championship does not begin for this panel until August but there will be
U14 Blitz starting next month for these teams. Full attendance required at
training.
Congratulations to the under 13 basketball team who won the County Roscommon Community games basketball final last Sunday.

Successful Week on the Playing Fields:
Feile U 14s’:It has been a good week on the playing fields for Boyle teams. The Under 14s had a good win over Roscommon Gaels in the Féile quarter final on Wednesday last. They led 0.9 to 1.2 at half time and an early second half goal set them on their way. This is a good side and maybe they will do what no Feile team has achieved in Boyle that is qualify from the county for the advanced stages. The team is: T. Halligan, S. McQuaid, P. Nally, L. Brennan, J. Sweeney, E. McGrath, J. Regan, C. Goldrick, S.Filan, E. Lavin, R. Finneran, N. Brennan, M. Lavin. P. Godrick with N. Kearney, J. Cuffe, R. Nerney, D. King, C. O’Neill. They will meet Strokestown in the semi final on this Wednesday at 6.45pm, possibly in Frenchpark-see fixtures for confirmation- and support would be a nice thing.
U 16s’:
Our Under 16s opened their championship campaign with a good win over Roscommon Gaels in Boyle on Friday last. A late goal by Luka Roddy made all the difference.
Minors:
The Think Energy minor team will play Castlerea on Sunday next at 12 noon in the Abbey Park in the Division 1 league.
Juniors:
The Feelystone junior team had a clear-cut win over St Michael’s in the Division 4 league in the Abbey Park on Sunday. It was good to see Noel McKenna make his playing debut for the Club. It looks like he will emulate his son's high standards.
Intermediates:
The McGovern Directional Drilling team had an easy win over a poor St Barry’s in the O'Gara Cup on Monday in Rooskey. The final score was Boyle 4.17 St. Barry’s 0. 4. At half time Boyle led by 1.8 to 0.1. If the Croghan experience was tough to play in and watch this was a relaxed affair. All played well here. Cian Smith was scorer in chief in the first half and the scoreboard kept ticking over nicely all through. In the second half Mark and Aaron O’Connor and Lochlainn Conboy added the other three goals. They will have tougher days out than this but still it made for relaxed viewing! They will be in action again next Sunday when they will meet Clan na Gael at 2.30 in the second game of the day in the Abbey Park.
The team was; T. McGarty, B. Supple, C. Supple, C. Beirne, J.S. Lyons, S. Purcell , C. Boylan, S. Tonra (0.1), C. Cox, M.O’Connor ( 1.2), D. Keenehan ( 0.3), A. O’Connor (1.2), C. Smith ( 1.4), R. O’Donohoe ( 0.3), L. Conboy ( 1.1) with M.P. Gilmartin, A. Finn, K. Mcloughlin, L. Conboy, D. O’Connor ( 0.1) D. Callagan, J. Healy. Eight people got on the scoreboard which was refreshing.
They have now beaten St. Brigid’s ‘B’, Michael Glavey’s, Shannon Gaels, St. Barry’s and lost to St. Dominick’s. The remaining fixtures are versus: Clann na Gael ‘B’ (I presume), Ballinameen and St. Michael’s.
Best wishes:
The Club wishes continued success in their playing careers to Marcus Kennedy and David Kelly who have transferred to clubs in Waterford and Dublin respectively.
New Lotto Teams:
The new Club lotto rota commenced at the weekend. Well done to Mary Clifford on leading her lotto team on its first outing at the weekend. there are now five teams in place so it reduces the burden a great deal on those who have kept it going steadfastly down the years to date. so be kind to the new faces as they will have a challenging settling in period!
Boyle Ladies:
Boyle ladies had a convincing 0 17 to 0 7 win over Western Gaels on Friday in the Senior League Division 2 at Boyle. They met Oran on Monday-see results. Boyle will have its two teams in action this week in the Under 12 league. The Division 3/4 team is scheduled to meet Ballinameen on this Wednesday evening in Ballinameen at 7pm while the Division 1/2 team is scheduled to have a home game in the Abbey Park on Sunday next at 6.30pm against St Croan’s.

Top Corner:
Thanks to the eye and memory of Gareth Gilmartin I have recovered ‘the cup’ I had asked about here some time ago. Its sojourn was a very benign affair! It strengthens my weak faith in the influence of this column!
I am trying to get the lowdown of Boyle under-age successes, and the opposition, of recent years so anyone with that that information please contact me on 086 8163399. Thanks T.C.

Lotto:
There was no jackpot winner at the most recent Club lotto draw which was held in Daly’s. The numbers drawn were; 8/14/17/28. The €20 winners were Lorcan Egan, Paddy and Monica Daly, Ann Conboy, Jonathan Wynne, Deirdre and Tom Kearney, Barbara Ferry, Kevin Ward, Concepta Simon, Dawn Johnston and Joe Keenehan. This week's draw will be held in the Moylurg Inn on Saturday night with Mary Clifford's team in charge. The jackpot will be €1,100.
Congratulations:
Congratulations are extended to the Abbey College second year footballers who had a comprehensive win over Castlerea Community School last weekin the Connacht semi final. They await the winners of Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown and Gortnor Abbey, Mayo in the Connacht Final. It was good to see fine performances from the many Boyle Club players on the panel.
The Club also congratulates Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown on their fine victory in the All Ireland Senior Colleges ‘C’ Final in Cavan on Sunday. This success has brought great joy to our Club Secretary, Kathleen Hanmore, who is a member of the teaching staff in Strokestown.
U 14s’ Win:
Boyle under 14s had a good win over Padraig Pearses in the Feile competition in the Abbey Park on Wednesday last. They will meet Roscommon Gaels in the next round of this competition on this Wednesday at 7pm in Boyle.
U 16s’:
The under 16s start their championship when they welcome Roscommon Gaels to Boyle on Good Friday-see fixtures for details.
U 18s’:
The ‘Think Energy’ minor team will have their next outing versus Castlerea in Boyle on Sunday April 19th at 12 noon.
Juniors:
The Feelystone junior team hava a home game versus St. Michael's on Sunday next at 12 noon in the next round of the Division 4 League.
Intermediate’s Win over Shannon Gaels:
The ‘McGovern Directional Drilling’ intermediate team had a win over Shannon Gaels in Croghan on Sunday in the O'Gara Cup. I imagine it wasn’t very enjoyable to play in but there was a section of it -early second half- not very enjoyable to watch either. By midway in the first half Boyle led on the score of 1 goal (Mark O’Connor) 4 points to 1 point. Boyle were not to score again until the 12th minute of the second half i.e. 27 minutes later. Indeed a poor Shannon Gaels team got a scent of a possible win early in the second half as the game became a messy affair. One can anticipate oppositions’ style and try to respond or not respond appropriately. For this period Boyle lacked definition and coherence. There were too many voices and the learning curve seems to be ‘flatlined’. There was a large wide total a number of which were just ‘bad wides’. In fairness the line I thought that did well was the full back line. I don’t know who the captain was yesterday but it looked as if Seanie Purcell would fit the bill with quiet advocacy with Liam Conroy as a Vice-Captain doing the rallying up front. Anyway back to the game. A Cian Smith goal, from a good Conroy pass, 22 mins. into the second half-half, finished the game off and it ended with Boyle winning comfortably on the score of 2.10 to Shannon Gaels 0.5. Team: T. McGarty, B.Supple, C. Boylan, C. Beirne, J.Lyons, D.Casey, S. Purcell, C. Cox, S. Tonra, L. Conroy, D. Keenehan, K. McLoughlin, P. Simon, M. O’Connor, C. Smith with L. Conboy, A. Finn, M.P. Gilmartin, D. Callaghan and J. Healy.
The next game is against St Barrys in Tarmonbarry on Easter Monday at 2pm.
Thanks:
Thanks are extended to Anthony Keenehan for his assistance in improvement works at the entrance to the Warren training ground. To reduce parking issues there, cars could park in the field corner.
Aidan Ray’s for Boyle club Gear:
Club members, players and supporters are reminded that Club hoodies, togs and shirts are currently available from Aidan Ray Menswear. Hoodies are available to order and orders must be placed at the premises.

(Check time as there is also a fixture time against Western Gaels in the same venue at 2pm).
