Mon. 18th 12 High Noon....The following were €20 winner at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in Wynne’s Bar; Barbara McQuaid, Colm Loftus, Canon Gerry Hanly, Colm Brennan, John Corrigan and Gus McDermott. The house prize was won by Tom Browne. The numbers drawn were 1/8/9/22. The jackpot wasn't won and it will stand at €3,200 for next Saturday night's draw which will be held in Mattimoe's Bar. Team 'B' will be in charge.
The U16s were comprehensively  beaten by a stronger Shannon Gaels/ Kilmore outfit in the Division 1 League in the College Field on Saturday evening. Their next outing will be against Padraig Pearses on Good Friday and much work needs to be done by the panel in the interim. [I (t.c. personal view) have said this before but if a team is really struggling at a Div. A level then that team’s games records should be collected and used as a case for playing in the second layer in subsequent years. All clubs do it and we cannot always have top teams. The important thing to do is to have teams competing at a level that gives them a chance, at least to enjoy it).
The National Automation Limited minors are scheduled for Division 1 League action on this Friday evening against Padraig Pearses in Woodmount.
The Cooney Motors/ Cooney's Centra juniors are in preparation for their next outing against St Michael's on 1st April (Easter Monday). Hopefully there will be a better response to the arrangements of the manager for this game than there were for the St. Ronan’s game. (t.c.)
The McGovern Directional Drilling intermediates will have their next outing on Easter Sunday when they will entertain (!) St Dominic’s.
All team managers are advised that the Abbey Park will remain closed for training and for games for the next two weeks to enable the surface to mature following recent drainage works, and all are asked to comply with the instructions of the pitch co-ordinator in this matter. (The pitch is looking well but as there is very little growth in this cold weather the pitch needs a shot of grass-growth inducing mild weather to get that protective cover of grass).
The Club expresses its appreciation to Abbey Community College for making its facilities available while the Abbey Park is out of commission.
The Club extends its heartiest congratulations to the players and manangement and eveyone involved with the St Brigids Club who did the County proud on Sunday in Croke Park in winning the All Ireland Club Senior Football Championship.
Congratulations are also extended to Club player Shane Spellman and Louise Kennedy who got married last weekend. All the very best to you both.
The Cash for Clobber campaign is ongoing and the Club will be accepting bags of old and unwanted clothes at the Clubrooms on the next few Saturdays from 12 noon until 2pm or at any other times by arrangement with Club officers. All Club members and supporters are asked to make a special effort to do a "spring clean" of their wardrobes and donate the unwanted c;othes to the Club.
Best wishes are extended to the Roscommon U21 panel and manangement as they commence their Connacht Championship campaign on Saturday v Leitrim. Boyle should be represented there. After the heroics of the county minor teams in recent years and last year’s U 21 getting to the All-Ireland Final the county’s U 21 teams should be contenders for a number of years.
Ladies Club
The Boyle Ladies footballers drew with St Barrys in the Junior League game which was played in a downpour in the College Field on Saturday evening. This new look team is taking shape under the management of Paul and Bernie. They didn't do enough in the second half to build on the fine foundation that they had built in the opening half.
