10 pm.
A meeting will take place on Tuesday night in the Royal Hotel at 8.30. There are a number of big projects for discussion such as the Golf Classic, the Saturday Meitheals, the opening on May 1st. (If the Roscommon U 21 team defeat Dublin in the All-Ireland Semi- Final, to be played on Sat. the 17th of April then the Final is due to be played on Sat. May the 1st which will necessitate the moving of the ‘opening’ to say the Bank Holiday Monday of the 3rd. I have asked for pics. especially of successful teams from 2005-when the last programme was produced for the pitch reopening- to the present. Also I repeat that I would like to have pics of this year's teams in as many grades as possible including ladies.
Feile; Boyle U14s’ had a convincing win over St Aidan’s in the Feile competition in Ballyforan on Wednesday last. They will travel south again on this Wednesday to meet Clan na Gael in Johnstown in the next round of this competition at 6.45pm.
The minor team played St Aidans in the Abbey Park on Easter Monday in the Division 1 League. Though behind at half time, Boyle ran out easy winners in the end on the score of 4.13 to 2.3. (St. Aidan’s will certainly be glad to see the back of Boyle as they have fallen to Boyle at Senior, Minor and U 14 in the recent past). The Feile side will travel to Johnstown on Saturday next to play Clan na Gael in the next round.
The McGovern Directional Drilling senior team sit on top of the O'Rourke Cup Div. 1, table after last weekend's fixtures. They secured a well merited draw with Padraig Pearses in the Abbey Park on Friday evening last and they secured a great 4 point victory over county champions Castlerea St Kevins in O'Rourke Park on Sunday. While they have made a great start to this league, it must be borne in mind that there are still seven more rounds to be played. They now have seven points from eight. To ensure Division One status they would probably need two if not three more points. Their next outing is the first of three home games the first against Clan na Gael on Sunday 18th April. There follows games against Elphin and St. Brigid’s. The team is settling down to a predictable pattern. While I was not able to be in Castlerea on Sunday I am told that it was full team performance from goalkeeper on: T. McGarty, B. Supple, T. Egan, C. Beirne, A. Sharkey, S. Purcell (Capt.), Ml. O’Donnell, K. McLoughlin, C. Cox, A. O’Connor, M. O’Connor, R. O’Donohoe, L. Conboy, D. O’Connor, C. Smith with D. Callaghan, L. Conroy (inj.), J. Lyons, D. Kelly, C. Beirne, K. Keenan, P. Lavin, J. Healy.
The Feelystone junior team will be in action on Saturday next in the Tansey Cup when they will take on Padraig Pearses in Woodmount. This team has been pretty impressive to date with wins against; Oran, Castlerea, Kilglass Gaels and X with a loss to Elphin.
The final arrangements are being made for the fundraising golf classic which will be held at Boyle Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday next. Those who have yet to enter should contact 086 8122084 immediatly.
Congratulations are extended to the panel and management of the Roscommon U21 team, and especially to Ciaran Cox, on winning the Connacht Championship against Sligo on Saturday. We eagerly look forward to a battle with the Dubs on Saturday week.
The Club "meitheal" in preparation for the opening of the new clubrooms on 1st May will take place on Saturdays the 17th and the 24th April, although the timing of the U21 All Ireland Semi Final may militate against a full day's work on 17th. All Club members are asked to come along and ensure that our grounds are looking their best for the opening.
The Club extends its sympathy to the King and McCarthy families on the respective deaths of Micheál King and Seán McCarthy. Micheal’s son Adrian has been a long time player with the Club. Sean McCarty played club and Street League football in Boyle in the sixties.
