Top Corner:
Thanks to the eye and memory of Gareth Gilmartin I have recovered ‘the cup’ I had asked about here some time ago. Its sojourn was a very benign affair! It strengthens my weak faith in the influence of this column!
I am trying to get the lowdown of Boyle under-age successes, and the opposition, of recent years so anyone with that that information please contact me on 086 8163399. Thanks T.C.

Lotto:
There was no jackpot winner at the most recent Club lotto draw which was held in Daly’s. The numbers drawn were; 8/14/17/28. Congratulations:
Congratulations are extended to the Abbey College second year footballers who had a comprehensive win over Castlerea Community School last weekin the Connacht semi final. They await the winners of Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown and Gortnor Abbey, Mayo in the Connacht Final. It was good to see fine performances from the many Boyle Club players on the panel.
The Club also congratulates Scoil Mhuire, Strokestown on their fine victory in the All Ireland Senior Colleges ‘C’ Final in Cavan on Sunday. This success has brought great joy to our Club Secretary, Kathleen Hanmore, who is a member of the teaching staff in Strokestown.

Intermediate’s Win over Shannon Gaels:
The ‘McGovern Directional Drilling’ intermediate team had a win over Shannon Gaels in Croghan on Sunday in the O'Gara Cup. I imagine it wasn’t very enjoyable to play in but there was a section of it -early second half- not very enjoyable to watch either. By midway in the first half Boyle led on the score of 1 goal (Mark O’Connor) 4 points to 1 point. Boyle were not to score again until the 12th minute of the second half i.e. 27 minutes later. Indeed a poor Shannon Gaels team got a scent of a possible win early in the second half as the game became a messy affair. One can anticipate oppositions’ style and try to respond or not respond appropriately. For this period Boyle lacked definition and coherence. There were too many voices and the learning curve seems to be ‘flatlined’. There was a large wide total a number of which were just ‘bad wides’. In fairness the line I thought that did well was the full back line. I don’t know who the captain was yesterday but it looked as if Seanie Purcell would fit the bill with quiet advocacy with Liam Conroy as a Vice-Captain doing the rallying up front. Anyway back to the game. A Cian Smith goal, from a good Conroy pass, 22 mins. into the second half-half, finished the game off and it ended with Boyle winning comfortably on the score of 2.10 to Shannon Gaels 0.5. Team: T. McGarty, B.Supple, C. Boylan, C. Beirne, J.Lyons, D.Casey, S. Purcell, C. Cox, S. Tonra, L. Conroy, D. Keenehan, K. McLoughlin, P. Simon, M. O’Connor, C. Smith with L. Conboy, A. Finn, M.P. Gilmartin, D. Callaghan and J. Healy.
The next game is against St Barrys in Tarmonbarry on Easter Monday at 2pm.
Thanks:
Thanks are extended to Anthony Keenehan for his assistance in improvement works at the entrance to the Warren training ground. To reduce parking issues there, cars could park in the field corner.
