Successful Week on the Playing Fields:
Feile U 14s’:It has been a good week on the playing fields for Boyle teams. The Under 14s had a good win over Roscommon Gaels in the Féile quarter final on Wednesday last. They led 0.9 to 1.2 at half time and an early second half goal set them on their way. This is a good side and maybe they will do what no Feile team has achieved in Boyle that is qualify from the county for the advanced stages. The team is: T. Halligan, S. McQuaid, P. Nally, L. Brennan, J. Sweeney, E. McGrath, J. Regan, C. Goldrick, S.Filan, E. Lavin, R. Finneran, N. Brennan, M. Lavin. P. Godrick with N. Kearney, J. Cuffe, R. Nerney, D. King, C. O’Neill. They will meet Strokestown in the semi final on this Wednesday at 6.45pm, possibly in Frenchpark-see fixtures for confirmation- and support would be a nice thing.
U 16s’:
Our Under 16s opened their championship campaign with a good win over Roscommon Gaels in Boyle on Friday last. A late goal by Luka Roddy made all the difference.
Minors:
The Think Energy minor team will play Castlerea on Sunday next at 12 noon in the Abbey Park in the Division 1 league.
Juniors:
The Feelystone junior team had a clear-cut win over St Michael’s in the Division 4 league in the Abbey Park on Sunday. It was good to see Noel McKenna make his playing debut for the Club. It looks like he will emulate his son's high standards.
Intermediates:
The McGovern Directional Drilling team had an easy win over a poor St Barry’s in the O'Gara Cup on Monday in Rooskey. The final score was Boyle 4.17 St. Barry’s 0. 4. At half time Boyle led by 1.8 to 0.1. If the Croghan experience was tough to play in and watch this was a relaxed affair. All played well here. Cian Smith was scorer in chief in the first half and the scoreboard kept ticking over nicely all through. In the second half Mark and Aaron O’Connor and Lochlainn Conboy added the other three goals. They will have tougher days out than this but still it made for relaxed viewing! They will be in action again next Sunday when they will meet Clan na Gael at 2.30 in the second game of the day in the Abbey Park.
The team was; T. McGarty, B. Supple, C. Supple, C. Beirne, J.S. Lyons, S. Purcell , C. Boylan, S. Tonra (0.1), C. Cox, M.O’Connor ( 1.2), D. Keenehan ( 0.3), A. O’Connor (1.2), C. Smith ( 1.4), R. O’Donohoe ( 0.3), L. Conboy ( 1.1) with M.P. Gilmartin, A. Finn, K. Mcloughlin, L. Conboy, D. O’Connor ( 0.1) D. Callagan, J. Healy. Eight people got on the scoreboard which was refreshing.
They have now beaten St. Brigid’s ‘B’, Michael Glavey’s, Shannon Gaels, St. Barry’s and lost to St. Dominick’s. The remaining fixtures are versus: Clann na Gael ‘B’ (I presume), Ballinameen and St. Michael’s.
Best wishes:
The Club wishes continued success in their playing careers to Marcus Kennedy and David Kelly who have transferred to clubs in Waterford and Dublin respectively.
New Lotto Teams:
The new Club lotto rota commenced at the weekend. Well done to Mary Clifford on leading her lotto team on its first outing at the weekend. there are now five teams in place so it reduces the burden a great deal on those who have kept it going steadfastly down the years to date. so be kind to the new faces as they will have a challenging settling in period!
Boyle Ladies:
Boyle ladies had a convincing 0 17 to 0 7 win over Western Gaels on Friday in the Senior League Division 2 at Boyle. They met Oran on Monday-see results. Boyle will have its two teams in action this week in the Under 12 league. The Division 3/4 team is scheduled to meet Ballinameen on this Wednesday evening in Ballinameen at 7pm while the Division 1/2 team is scheduled to have a home game in the Abbey Park on Sunday next at 6.30pm against St Croan’s.
