Ros. Co. Hosp. protest outside the Dail from 6.30ish during Dail Debate….today Wed.
O’Rourke Cup League; Clann na Gael 3.6 Boyle 0.8.
Three first half goals in the first half left Boyle with a mountain to try and climb in the second half as Clann led by 3.4 to Boyle 0.5. Clann had their first goal in the opening minute and carved out a number of other chances before adding their second on 15 minutes and their third,a decisive goal on 24 minutes. They also created some more goal chances which Tadgh Lowe did very well with. Boyle added their five points intermittently through the half from David Callaghan, Mark O’Donohoe, Cian Smith 2 (1 free) and Darren O’Connor, after good work from Mark O’Donohoe. While Boyle had a couple of half chances for goals they lacked the incisiveness and speed to punch through a crowded Clann defence. Meanwhile Clann really dragged the Boyle defence to the sidelines and created the space for some powerful runs right down the middle which created the goal chances with a ruthlessness that Boyle can’t generate.
However if one looks at a positive it was that the team tried so hard in the second half and that is the ethic which keeps the possibilities alive. While Clann added another point after two minutes of the second half it was to be their last until injury time. Boyle, while stanching the first half haemorrhage, were not able to make significant inroads and the necessary goal injection did not materialise. Boyle still have three games in which they need 3 or 4 points to enable them to remain in Division 1 League as the cavalry from the under-age teams begin to come to the rescue and establish a more stable framework, hopefully. The games are against St. Dominick’s and Kilmore at home and St. Brigid’s away. The next game seems to be v Oran in the Junior ‘A’ C’Ship on Friday the 15th or Sat. 16th.
The Boyle team: T. Lowe, C. Boylan, J. Lyons, A. Sharkey, B. Supple M.O’Connor, C. Beirne, S. Tonra, C. Cox, A. O’Connor, D. O’Callaghan 1, K. McLoughlin, M.O’Donohoe 2, C. Smith 3 (2fr.), D. O’Connor 1 with P.Simon, L.Conboy 1, J. Suffin, C. Garvin, T. McGarrity. Declan Hunt did very well as referee.
