Thurs. 1.45ish.
Hiya Tony some recollections on an exciting game.

This was certainly a game of 2 halves. Boyle started brightly playing with a good breeze and were dominating over all the pitch. Goals and points were plentiful and Boyle scored 4-4 to Pearses 1-2 in this half. On resumption Boyle seemed assured of an easy victory with an early 2nd half goal to go into a 15 point lead. Much credit to the Pearses girls, they steadied and used the breeze to their advantage with their midfielders kicking long high ball into their forwards who scored 3 quick goals. All possession was with Pearses who scored another 3 points and another 3 goals. Boyle were looking at defeat with 6 points down and less than five minutes of actual time to play, Boyle went on the attack, which resulted in goal. Pearses replied with a point to leave it a 4 point game. Boyle worked the ball out of their own half and this run resulted in a lobbed ball over the keeper’s head. It was now a 1 point game. Deep in injury time, Boyle equalised to leave matters all square. On the 5th minute of injury time, Boyle managed to keep their nerve and the winning point was scored. Pearses had one last attack but this resulted in a wide. To the relief of all Boyle supporters the final whistle sounded. Final Score Boyle 7-7, Pearses 7-6. The 2nd half Novena had been answered and Emma Roddy, Captain, accepted the Trophy.

The Team and their large support returned to Boyle for the usual victory town drive and then to Boyle Golf Club where Phil and Gerry Emmett provided much needed refreshments.

This was certainly a great team performance and great credit to them, with their never- say- die attitude. The Team as lined out: Karen Kane, Blathin Dodd, Saoirse Noone, Emma Roddy (Captain), Colleen Regan, Natasha Regan, Shauna Moran, Danni McLoughlin, Nicole Kerins, Stephaine Lowe, Orla Nicholson, Melissa Mattimoe, Sinead Dodd, Melissa Goldrick, Sarah Walshe, Subs, Sarah Halligan, Ciara Coleman, Tanya McGuinn, Ciara Brennan and Emma Tiernan. Managers Michael Kerins and Teresa Ward and Team Sponsor, ‘Ultimate Insulation Services’.

Boyle Ladies GAA extend thanks to Team Sponsor 'Ultimate Insulation Services', Phil and Gerry Emmett (Boyle Golf Club), and the large crowd of parents and supporters who travelled to Ballyleague and especially our "Flag man" for flying the Boyle colours so well all along the Ballyleague pitch.

Thurs. am early:

Boyle had two good wins on Wednesday evening. Congratulations to the Ladies U 16 team on their county final win over Padraig Pearses in Ballyleague. The final score was Boyle 7.6 Pearses 7.5. This suggests a thriller and I wait on Fiona's report to expand on same.

The Tansey Cup team had a very convincing win over St. Joseph's at Kilteevan. The half time score was Boyle 2.10 St. Joseph's 0.1. The final score was 4.12 to 1.8. Two early goals from Brendan McQuaid set Boyle on their way and they dominated in most sectors and played some excellent football. It was very good to see some players, who have not played a lot of football for some time, back in action and doing well. The team was: T. McGarty, C. Boylan, J. Lyons, M.McGovern, Cillian Cox, T. Tymon, Battles, P.Lavin, D. O'Connor, N. McKenna, C. Lavin, J. Suffin, P.Simon with C. Garvin, L.Harrington, D. Battles.

It would be invidious to nominate 'best for' from this game and while one always has to consider the quality of the opposition- it still was their first and only team- the backs were completly on top until a little slackness towards the end, when the game was well won, conceeded some scores. The centre field pairing did excellently and hopefully they can bring this level of performance in a more consistent way into their game. The score tells of the role of the forwards and they must have enjoyed the game. Tymon, Battles and Conor Lavin did very well.
