U 16s’ take League Title in Style:
The highlight of the weekend was the tremendous victory by our U16s’ in the County Division 1 League in a nailbiting encounter in Ballinlough when they overcame the local side Michael Glaveys by 1.10 to 1.8. The sides have had some titanic struggles in the past four years but Glavey’s have dominated the winning of those albeit by narrow margins with a very good side. It was an excellent Boyle performance with a wonderful goal from Donal Smith just before the interval setting them up for a historic Division 1 success. Glavey’s played with the wind in the first half but Boyle were doing fine in terms of containment until Glavey's scored a goal on 18 minutes. This put them a goal ahead. However Boyle fought back culminating in the fine Smith goal, just on the break, left the half-time scores level at 1.4 each. Boyle, with the wind, added four points in the first 10 minutes to Glavey’s 1. Then there followed a period of attrition as Glavey’s came back into it. With time fading away Luka Roddy who had an excellent game gave Boyle a 3 point cushion and despite a very late Glavey’s point Boyle’s tenacity and courage held out for a fine win which meant a lot to the squad, trainers and supporters. While a few players had quiet games the combined effort was first class with a lot of fine performances. The Smiths, Donal and Enda were the launch-pad of the victory especially Donal's great goal (not the first one I’ve seen from the same player). All the backs played well especially the tenacity of the full back line. While I’ve mentioned Luka another to shine was young McLoughlin from frees and also with some fine catches one at the end which was very important. One has to keep in mind that the team they beat was of top quality and it likely that they will meet again at minor in the years to come. I fancy Boyle to get the upper hand in the long term.
It was an excellent team performance. Well done to the entire panel and the management of Gary Goldrick, Paul Duignan and Jonathan Conroy. They are not finished for the season yet however as they have the Ahern Cup Final versus St Croan's to come-perhaps at the coming weekend-see fixtures for details. The team was; G. Gunning, Brennan, Harrington, Furey, Goldrick, Goldrick, Sweeney, E. Smith and D. Smith (1.2), McPadden (0.1), McKenna, Lavin, Roddy (0.2), McLoughlin (0.3 2 frs.) and McCrann.

U 21s’ Bow Out After Keen Tussle:

Eire Og 0.9 Boyle 0.7.

Boyle U21s’ were not as lucky as they were on the wrong end of a two point margin when they lost to Eire Og in the championship play-of in Ballyfarnon on Saturday. Some missed opportunities, especially goal opportunities, left Boyle on the wrong side of the two point loss. However it was not a case of a throw away as Eire Og are a very good, strong, side with few weaknesses including subs. In Darren McDermott they had the difference on Saturday. He was responsible for most of their scores and also set up a number of those he didn’t score himself. At half-time Eire Og led on the score of 5 points to 3 with Boyle having the wind in the second half. Boyle levelled with points from Cian Smith and Ml. Corrigan. However Boyle were unable to push on from there and they had a scoring famine for about the 18 minutes. By the 22 minute Eire Og had gone 3 points up which Boyle reduced to 2 in a dramatic finale with two pointed frees by Cian Smith but Eire Og didn’t give up and ran out good winners. They play St. Dominick’s next with favourites Kilbride awaiting the winners. The Boyle team was as follows: C. Beirne, C. Brennan, C. Boylan, Ml. O’Donnell, C. O’Neill, C. Cox, J. McDermott, C. Cox, K. McLoughlin, P. Lavin, D. O’Connor, Ml. Corrigan (0.2), J. Suffin, D. Callaghan, C. Smith (0.5 frs) with T. Lowe. The U 21 season is now over. Thanks to the panel and to Gary and his management colleagues.

Juniors:
The Feelystone Junior team is awaiting details of its next outing-see fixtures.

Roch in the Mirror:
Roch Hanmore featured prominently in a product promotion picture featured in the Irish Mirror on Saturday the 14th. The pic was taken near the Sydney Opera House. Roch was wearing the Feelystone Boyle Junior jersey. This demonstrates that if you sponsor Boyle GAA the possibility of local, national and international exposure exists.
Scor:
Boyle made a welcome return to Scór na nOg at the weekend with participation in three events in Elphin over the weekend. While there were valiant performances in figure dancing and quiz, the highlight was the qualification for the next round by Karen Carty in solo singing. Thanks to all who participated and thoughts are already on bigger and better efforts next year.

The Club wishes to thank those involved in this competition.
U16 registration and training will be commencing shortly. More details will follow next week.
Sin e for now as the year nears its competitive end –Juniors and Ahern Cup as far as I can see.
Slan.
Ps. Great to see former GAA under-age great Lorcan Egan togged out on stage in the musical as a Roman guard……the start of a new career perhaps! I’m glad I thought of that as he’d be annoyed if I missed it.
