Mon. 0.04am
It was a week of mixed results for the Club.
Our U12s Division 1 team lost to Padraig Pearses while the Division 4 team beat the same opposition in the Abbey Park on Sunday. They will host Castlerea in the Division 1 league on Sunday next while the Division 4 team will face St Failes-details to be confirmed.
The U 14s’ lost to Clan na Gael on Thursday evening last. It is expected that they will have a game against St Dominick’s on this Thursday evening-see fixtures.
The U16s and the National Automation minor teams have a break in competition until after the leaving and junior cert exams.

The McGovern Directional Drilling Intermediate team had a hard earned but deserved win, Boyle 2.6 over Eire Og 1.6.in their excellent grounds on Sunday in the second round of the George Bannon Sports Intermediate Championship. This is their second win in this competition and it leaves them well placed to make the knock-out stages. They have, however,a tough local derby remaining when they will face St. Michael’s in the Abbey Park on 19th June. They will be in action again on Sunday next when they take on Elphin in the Orchard Park in the O'Rourke Cup at 3pm. Boyle started in great style with flowing movements and good scores. It seemed as if they would overwhelm the opposition as they sped into an early of 1.3 to 0.1 after 9 minutes or so. However Eire Og adjusted their tactics effectively and at half time the score stood at Boyle 1.5 Eire Og 1.3. Boyle went a lengthy period of the half, from the 11th to the 28th minute without a score. The early period of the second half saw a good number of wides from Eire Og as Boyle struggled to recover its early rhythm. There were few scores in the half but Darren O’Connor added his goal with a fine intervention on 21 minutes. The introduction of Aaron O’Connor steadied the ship in the last ten minutes or so and Boyle were worthy winners but have things to work on going forward. This leaves Boyle with 4 points from their two games; Eire Og and St. Dominick’s 2 each and St. Michael’s, Boyle’s next opponents, in bother with no points. Boyle return to the important issue of the O’Rourke Cup league v Elphin on Sunday next. Also there is the important Junior game of this Wednesday night v Kilbride. It will be interesting to see what resources or backup exists here for the bench or so in the Senior League/Intermediate C’Ship. The team: T. Lowe, Ml.O’Donnell, J. Lyons, A. Sharkey, C. Beirne, M. O’Connor (0.2), S.Purcell, S. Tonra, C. Cox, K. McLoughlin, C. Smith, D. Callaghan (0.1), J. Suffin, D. O’Connor (2.1), M.O’Donohoe (0.2) with C. O’Neill and A. O’Connor. You can log onto Roscommon GAA’s web site for up-to-the-minute results
The Cooney Motors/ Cooney's Centra junior team will travel to Kilbride on this Wednesday evening to take on the home side in the Tansey Cup at 8pm.
There will be a special presentation evening to recognise our valued Club sponsors in the Clubroom on Tuesday next 31st May at 8pm. The Secretary will be in contact with all concerned.
The Club extends it sympathy with the Feely family, Greatmeadow on the sad passing, in Manchester, of Michael Feely, brother of our Club Vice President, Barry and uncle to players Aaron and Mark O’Connor. Sympathy is also extended to the McHugh and Beirne families, Strokestown and Tulsk on the death of Rita McHugh. They were both included in a minutes silence which was observed at our Intermediate Championship game in Loughglynn on Sunday.
The Club wishes to express its appreciation of the FAS Rural Social Scheme under the leadership of Gerard Tivnan on the ongoing excellent work that they are doing for the Club. The old dressing rooms and the stand are the latest to benefit from their expertise.
Congratulations are also extended to former star under age player and county minor goalkeeper Chris O'Dowd who continues to distinguish himself in the film world. It is difficult to say what influence his time in the Abbey (park) had on his fledgling career. Anyway we are of course proud of his progress and watch its ascendancy with interest.
The idea of the heavy metal collection is still in some peoples’ minds if only there was someone to head it up. Consider that St. Michael’s are said to have garnered over €40,000 from the project there.(T.C.)
Anything on the European day promoted by Boyle GAA?
Welcome to Boyle for a former club stalwart of the 50s’ early sixties before he went to New York, Austin Beisty.
I have little or no communication from our extended constituency in far flung lands.
Boyle Ladies Club

They will continue training every Wednesday and Friday evening at the usual times. The Junior Ladies first round championship game versus Tulsk which was due to have been played on Sunday was postponed as a mark of respect to the late Rita McHugh, who has strong connections with the Tulsk Club. Boyle Ladies Club expresses its sincere sympathy to the McHugh and Beirne families. No date has been confirmed for the re-fixing of this game.
