Mon. 1.10am. The presses never sleep.

****Don't forget the U 12 registration night tonight Monday. Please see previous post for details.****
The following were elected to run the affairs of Boyle Minor Club at a well attended AGM which was held in the Clubroom last week;- Chairperson- Gerry Cregg, Vice Chairperson-Leonard Sutton, Secretary-Charlie Candon, Asst Secretary-Claire Conway, Treasurer-Mary Halligan, Assistant Treasurer-Olive Filan, Liaison Officer to P.RO,-Jim McGrath. The following team managers were ratified;- Minor, Vincent Flanagan, U 16-Liam Conroy, U 14-Mark McGovern, U 12-Gerry Cregg, U 10 Odran Feely and U 8-Noel Casey. It was pointed out that all Team Managers must hold Foundation Coaching Certificates, Garda Vetting and Club membership before they are eligible to act as coaches. It was also outlined that all players must be registered and that they will not be allowed to play with the Club until registered and membership fees are paid. Team Managers are asked to ensure that this requirement is complied with and that there is total co-operation with the Club Registrar.
The National Automation Limited minors begin their competitive season in defence of their title the coming week end in the Division 1 League when they travel to Johnstown -see update here for details.
The presentation night to honour last year's double winning minors is currently being arranged and a date in March is to be confirmed.
A meeting with all team managers (Managers of adult teams, underage teams and the various Ladies Club teams) will be held in the Clubroom on this Wednesday evening at 8pm. It is essential that all managers or their representatives are present so that the training rota for all teams can be arranged with the Pitch Co-Ordinators.
Club jackets may be purchased from Club Chairperson, Aidan Lavin, who can be contacted at 087 2677865.
The following were €20 winners at the most recent Club Lotto draw which was held in Clarke's Bar;-Tom and Mary McKeon, Pat Conroy, Joseph O'Dowd, Brian Supple, Pat Clarke, Tanya Tansey, Jason Harrington, Hugh McHugh, Louise Gaffney and Darragh Beirne. The numbers drawn were: 13/17/27/28. This week's draw will be held in the Abbey Bar on Saturday night next with Team ‘E’ in charge. The jackpot will be €5,400.
Commiserations to St. Brigids on their narrow defeat to Garrycastle in the All Ireland Senior Club Semi Final on Saturday last. No doubt they will bounce back from this set-back. Congratulations to Garrycastle and especially to the Boyle connection-corner forward James Duignan, whose mother is a native of Boyle.
Well done to Sean Purcell who played for Connacht in their Railway Cup Semi Final defeat to Ulster, in Sligo, on Sunday. It says something about the publicity that the Railway Cup gets that I (T.C.) did not know of it until Sunday. I remember the end of the great Railway Cup tradition in the late fifties and early sixties when 30/40 thousand would turn up to watch the greatest players of any age play and they would be honoured to be selected. In the early fifties three Boyle players played Railway Cup. They were John Joe Nerney, Dr. Bill McQuillan and Vet. Timmy Lynch. Sean Purcell joins, I’m nearly sure, Tom Ryan and Gary Wynne. Tell me if I’m missing out on someone.
Next week end, Friday and Saturday is Sigerson week end in Galway with the semi finals on Friday in U.C.G. grounds at Dangan and the Final on Saturday in Pearse Stadium. Confirm this as trying to decipher this from web sites is not easy. The great U.C.G. winning teams of ‘60/’62/’63 are being honoured at a banquet on Friday night. Included in this group is Paddy Nangle of the ’62 team and dedicated coach for yonks at St. Mary's College. Mentioning colleges football, the Connachts 'A' semi-finals take place on Wednesday in Ballyhaunis where Ros. C.B.S.play St. Jarlath's at 11 (I think) and Summerhill play X afterwards.
(All that should be enough to be going on with. The Ladies note below is much more succinct!).
Boyle Ladies Club
There will be a meeting of Boyle Ladies Club Committee on this Tuesday evening at 9pm in the Clubroom. All officers are asked to attend.
