Mon. 12.15am. Next Sunday Roscommon are in an All-Ireland U 21 Final v Dublin in Tullamore at 2pm. The above pic. from Boyle Boys School was celebrating/promoting Roscommon's appearance in the 1980 All-Ireland senior final. I'm interested in having the pic. named so if you could nominate some of the names please contact me.
Query re. Kilkenny family and Green Street.
Also there is some vague suggestion that there may be a Boyle connection on the Dublin team with their star player Ciaran Kilkenny. Is he connected to a person called Ossie Kilkenny? I have a recollection of an Ossie Kilkenny being a masseur to Roscommon team circa 1980. I had a notion that he came from Tipperary and was in the motor business and became a prominent businessman. There is also a suggestion that there was a Kilkenny family living up Green Street yonks ago perhaps in what was called the Slated Halls. Perhaps this is a query for Christy Wynne/Francie Tarpey/Richard McGee though I have a feeling that P.J.Egan may be tuned into this also. I'm just putting it out there so if anyone has any ideas on it let me know. T.C.

Mon. 12.45am. Notices: As announced last week, Liam Conroy was the popular winner of our Club Lotto Jacpot of €5,800 in the most recent draw which was held in Mattimoes Bar. The €20 winners were as follows;- John Finneran, Jackie and Gabriel Valentine, Peggy Feely, Ciaran and Mairead McKeon, Cathy and Steve Garavan, Darren Battles, Mary Rooney, Susan Wynne, James McGee and Aaron Harrington. The house prize was won by Tara Brady. This weeks lotto draw will be held in Creighton's Lounge on Saturday night next with Team E -Pat Goldrick's team in charge. The jackpot will revert to €1,000.
All roads will lead to Tullamore on Sunday next to support the Roscommon U21s in the All Ireland Final against The Dubs. The Club extends its best wishes to the entire panel and management, and especially to our representatives-Tadhg, Donie and David. In preparation for the big occasion, the Club urges businesses and households to deck the Town and surrounds in blue and yellow to show our support. The County Board is organising "Rossie Day" on Friday next 4th May, in preparation for the Final. Roscommon people are asked to wear the County colours on the day and to make a voluntary donation of €2 per person to the Roscommon U21 Training Fund. The schools in the area are also asked to participate in activities on the day, thereby giving them a chance of winning prizes.
The Club is also actively involved in the sale of the tickets for the annual County Board fundraising draw. The prize fund is €50,000 and tickets are available from Club officers. The proceeds go towards the preparation of County teams in all age categories, and it is important to emphasise to Boyle supporters that the proceeds of all tickets sold in excess of the quota stipulated by the County. The Club's own draw for the load of firewood and other attractive prizes will be held next weekend, and it is intended that tickets will be on sale in the Town over the weekend.
Thanks to all who generously supported the church gate collection at the weekend and to those who assisted with the collection.
The Club extends thanks to Dessie McLoughlin and Christopher O' Connor and all others who helped in the organising of a very succesful and enjoyable tribute to Sean Young in the Moylurg Inn on Friday night last.
The U14s will play Clann na Gael in the Division 1 League on this Tuesday in Johnstown.
The U16s defeated Roscommon Gaels and lost to Clann na Gael during the week in the Division 1 League. They have a busy upcoming schedule with a home game with St Dominick’s in Boyle on Friday next at 7.30pm, and games against Western Gaels on Bank Holiday Monday and away to Padraig Pearses on Friday 11th May.
The National Automation Limited minors suffered a five point loss to Padraig Pearses on Sunday evening in Woodmount. Their next outing is against Western Gaels in Boyle on Sunday the 13th.
It will shortly be compulsory for all underage players to wear gumshields when playing or training. The Club has arranged competitive rates locally and details are available from Minor Club officers.
The Cooney Motors/ Cooneys Centra junior team will play Elphin in the Orchard Park on Saturday next at 6pm in the Tansey Cup.
The McGovern Directional Drilling team had a good win over Michael Glaveys on Friday evening last. They will play St Michaels in the Abbey Park on Monday next, May 7th, at 2pm.
All team managers are advised that the Abbey Park will be closed for ALL training until further notice in order to allow for grass growth so that it will continue to be fit for the many scheduled upcoming games. Co-operation with the pitch co-ordinators in this matter is vital.
*****Team managers are asked to ensure that all players respect the Club facilities at all times, as minor but unnecessary damage was discovered at the weekend***.
Congratulations are extended to Alan and Jenny Tiernan on the birth of a baby daughter. Sympathy is extended to the McLoughlin Family,
Patrick Street
on the death of Mrs Esther McLoughlin.
Boyle Ladies Club,
The U16 girls suffered a disappointing defeat to Shannon Gaels in the Division 1 League Final on Sunday. Thanks is extended to the entire panel and their management for their dedication throughout the season, culminating in the reaching of the final stages of both league and championship. The U12 girls had a good win over Shannon Gaels during the week. Their next outing is away to Kilglass Gaels on Wednesday evening. The Junior Ladies are expected to be in action at the weekend-see fixtures for details.
