Happy New Year:
The following were €20 winners at the Club Lotto draw which was held in An Craoibhin on 18th December; Mary and Liam Coyle, Michael Hunt, John and Olivia Kelly, Paul and Anita Kearney, Martin Supple, Tom Gallagher, P.Butler, Michelle Simon/Triona Mullaney, Ciaran Keenehan and Jordan Maye. The house prize was won by Katriona Duffy. There was no jackpot winner.
The Abbey Park has been a hive of activity in recent days with the playing of a very successful and competitive street league. There has been a huge turnout of players and their efforts are greatly appreciated. It was good to see some of our returned players participating and also some ‘guests’. Also some of the experimental rules panned out well. The pace of the game apparently confused a Sligo goalkeeper and led to a defining moment in one while it was a bit unfair to take advantage in this way we won’t dwell on it go hard on him! The final will be played anon. Perhaps next Sunday is out due to the commencement of the F.B.D. League Ros. v GMIT in Ballyforan. Anyway the final will be contested between The Warren and The Town with the ‘Plate’ between Forest View and Deerpark. Apparently after the seasonal goodwill only ‘legitimate’ teams will be allowed in these games. The Club extends its thanks to Wynne’s Bar and the Moylurg Inn for the provision of sandwiches and refreshments after the street league games. The goal of the series goes to Alan Cooney.
The Annual Quiz, which was held in a packed Moving Stairs on Wednesday night last, was a resounding success, as a fundraiser and socially. The winners from a total of 47 teams were the Keane Family and friends, Granny, Ballinameen. Thanks to all who participated and helped and thanks to Quizmaster Tony Conboy for his own brand of quiz which helped make the night special and to Barry Lowe and staff in the Moving Stairs for their assistance. It is now a seasonal fixture and with the necessary adjustments to some of its elements it will hopefully continue to improve.
